Air Cleaner Housing: Service and Repair
Air Filter Housing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Pry Lever - Rmv Outside Mirror (80-200)
• Silicon-free lubricant
Removing
- Remove air filter element. Refer to => [ Air Filter ] Service and Repair.
- Remove the right wheel housing liner.
- Remove the washer fluid reservoir filler tube - 2 -.
- Remove the bolt - 1 -.
- Press the air duct - 2 - off the lower section of the air filter from wheel housing side inward using (80-200).
Installing
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
- Coat connecting pieces with silicon-free lubricant and press air duct in until it engages, use (80-200) for help if necessary.
• Air filter housing must always be clean.
• Secure all hose connections using hose clamps appropriate for the model type, refer to the Parts Catalog.
• Note the following when blowing out air filter housing with compressed air: To prevent malfunctions, cover critical air-flow engine components such as Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor, air duct pipes etc. with a clean cloth.
- Make sure the small hole in the bottom section of the air filter housing - arrow - is not plugged. Clean it if necessary.
- Clean air filter housing (upper and lower sections) of salt residue, dirt or leaves (use vacuum cleaner if necessary).
- Check the MAF sensor and air duct hose (intake air side) for salt residue, dirt, and leaves.
- Check the intake channels up to the air filter for dirt.
- Make sure that air filter element is properly centered when placed into the mounting of the lower section of the air filter housing.
- Set the upper air filter housing onto lower air filter housing, without using much force. When doing this, make sure that the upper section of the air filter housing is not placed crooked onto the air filter element. Pay attention to the sealing lip of the air filter element (false air).
- Make sure the air guide hose is securely attached to the MAF sensor.
