Fuel Tank, Filling with Fuel after Installing High Pressure Pump

After installing the high pressure pump, it must be filled with fuel before starting the engine for the first time (never let the pump run dry otherwise it will get destroyed).

Test requirement:

Check the fuel gauge in the instrument cluster. The gas needle must not be in the reserve area.

To fill the high pressure fuel pump with fuel, proceed as follows:

Procedure for Vehicles through MY 10

- Connect a vehicle diagnostic tester.

- Turn ignition on.

- Select "engine electronics" in On Board Diagnostic (OBD).

- Then select "basic setting".

- Select channel 35 from "in display field 2, pump off".

- Press the "activate" button.

- The fuel pump now run for approximately 60 seconds "in display field 2, pump on".

- Repeat the process "3 times" to make sure the high pressure pump is adequately filled with fuel.

Procedure for Vehicles from MY 11

- Connect a vehicle diagnostic tester.

- Turn ignition on.

- Select "engine electronics" in OBD.

- Then select "basic setting".

- Select "checking the transfer fuel pump".

- Press the "Start" button.

- The fuel pumps start.

- The fuel pumps must run for approximately 3 minute to make sure the fuel system is sufficiently filled with fuel.

Procedure for all Vehicles

- Then start the engine.

- Let the motor run for approximately 2 minutes at an average RPM (more than 2000/min) and then back off.

- Check fuel system for leaks.

- Erase the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory with a scan tool.

- Perform a road test where the accelerator pedal is pressed all the way down at least one time. Then check the high pressure area again for leaks.

- Check the DTC memory.
