Rear Final Drive
• For the correct bolts and other components according to the final drive code, refer to the Parts Catalog.
• Check the gear oil level. Refer to => [ Gear Oil Level in Rear Final Drive 0BF and 0BE, Checking ] Gear Oil Level In Rear Final Drive 0BF and 0BE, Checking and the ATF level, refer to => [ ATF Level in Rear Final Drive 0BF and 0BE, Checking ] ATF Level In Rear Final Drive 0BF and 0BE, Checking in the final drive when replacing the rear final drive and fill if necessary.
• Capacities and specifications, refer to => [ Engine Codes, Transmission Allocations, Ratios and Capacities ] Engine Codes, Transmission Allocations, Ratios and Capacities.
• Clean the contact surfaces before installing the brackets and waxed components. Contact surfaces must be free of wax and grease.
• Thoroughly clean all connections and the surrounding area before disconnecting.
ATF and Gear Oil
The rear final drive 0BF and 0BE have separated chambers for the ATF and gear oil.
• Only the ATF available as a replacement part may be used for the hydraulic components (hydraulic control unit and the left and right chambers). Refer to the Parts Catalog.
• Only the gear oil available as a replacement part may be used for the final drive (drive train, differential). Refer to the Parts Catalog.
• Using other ATF or gear oil will cause the final drive to malfunction.
Gear oil and ATF change on the Audi RS 5
• The gear oil and the ATF must be changed on the Audi RS 5.
• There are no change intervals for the other vehicles.
Oil, Environment and Disposal Regulations
• Be very careful when handling ATF, transmission fluid and other fluids.
• Dispose of the drained fluids properly.
• Follow all environment and disposal regulations.
• Be sure to read the instructions on the fluid containers.
Sealant
• Thoroughly clean the separating surfaces on the housing before applying the sealant.
• Apply the sealant (D 176 501 A1) evenly and not too thick.
• Do not get any sealant in the vent holes or oil channels.
Shaft Seals
• Lightly coat the shaft seals on the outer circumference with oil before installing
• The open side on the shaft seals faces the fluid to be sealed off.
• Check the gear oil level. Refer to => [ Gear Oil Level in Rear Final Drive 0BF and 0BE, Checking ] Gear Oil Level In Rear Final Drive 0BF and 0BE, Checking or the ATF level, refer to => [ ATF Level in Rear Final Drive 0BF and 0BE, Checking ] ATF Level In Rear Final Drive 0BF and 0BE, Checking in the final drive after replacing the shaft seals.
Flange/Driveshaft Seal
• Fill the space between the lips - arrow - halfway with sealing grease (G 052 128 A1).
Flange Shaft Seals
• Coat the space between the sealing lips - arrow - with ATF.
O-rings, Seals and Gaskets
• Always replace the O-rings, seals and gaskets.
• Check the contact surfaces on the housing and shaft for burrs and damage after removing the seals.
• Thoroughly clean the separating surfaces on the housing before assembling.
• Lightly lubricate O-rings before installing, this prevents the O-rings from being pinched when inserting.
• Check the gear oil level. Refer to => [ Gear Oil Level in Rear Final Drive 0BF and 0BE, Checking ] Gear Oil Level In Rear Final Drive 0BF and 0BE, Checking or the ATF level, refer to => [ ATF Level in Rear Final Drive 0BF and 0BE, Checking ] ATF Level In Rear Final Drive 0BF and 0BE, Checking in the final drive after replacing the gaskets, seals and O-rings.
Circlips
• Do not stretch the circlips.
• Always replace damaged or stretched circlips.
• The circlips must touch the bottom of the groove.
• Replace the adapter sleeves. Installation position: Slot - A - is longitudinal to line of force - arrow -.
Bolts and Nuts
• Loosen and tighten the bolts and nuts from the covers and housings diagonally.
• Do not cant, rather loosen and tighten especially sensitive parts in diagonal manner in stages.
• Tightening specifications for unoiled bolts and nuts are given.
• Always replace self-locking nuts and bolts.
• Using a wire brush, clean threads of bolts (replace outer driveshaft bolts) which are secured with locking compound. Install the bolts with locking fluid (AMV 185 101 A1).
• If self-locking bolts were installed or if regular bolts were installed with locking fluid, then the threaded holes must be cleaned with a thread cutter. If the holes are not cleaned, then the bolts could break off the next time they are removed.
