Input Shaft Overview
Removing the input shaft from the output shaft and the bearing bracket => [ Shift Fork Group, Input Shaft, 1st, 2nd and Reverse Gear Output Shafts Overview ] Shift Fork Group, Input Shaft, 1st, 2nd and Reverse Gear Output Shafts Overview.
Assembly sequence - disassemble the driveshaft and assemble; refer to => [ Input Shaft ] Input Shaft.
• When installing new gears or input shaft, note technical data.
• When replacing synchronizer rings, the intermediate ring and synchronizer ring for the respective gear must be replaced together.
• Insert all bearings and synchronizer rings on input shaft with transmission fluid.
• After installing, 3rd through 6th gears must have an axial play of 0.15 to 0.50 mm.
1 Transmission Housing
2 Ball Bearing
• For the input shaft
• Replace => [ (Item 15) Ball Bearing ] Transmission Housing
3 Plate
• To lock the ball bearing in the transmission housing on
4 Input Shaft
• With splines for the 1st, 2nd and Reverse gear
• Checking the input shaft for wear, refer to => [ Checking the Input Shaft for Wear ]
5 Bolt
• Tightening specification => [ (Item 13) Bolt ] Transmission Housing
6 Roller Bearing
• For the input shaft
• Removing, refer to => [ Press roller bearing off input
shaft. ] Input Shaft
• Installing, refer to => [ Install the roller bearing all the
way onto the input shaft. ] Input Shaft
7 Bearing Bracket
• Supports input shaft and input shaft in transmission cover

8 Needle Bearing
• For 5th gear
9 5th Gear Wheel
10 Inner Race for 5th Gear
• Installed position; refer to => [ Installation Location of Synchronizer
Rings for 3rd to 6th Gears ] Input Shaft
• Replace if there are grooves or scoring
11 Intermediate Ring for 5th Gear
• Installed position, refer to => [ Installation Location of Synchronizer

12 Synchronizer Ring for 5th Gear
• Installed position, refer to => [ Installation Location of Synchronizer

• Replace if there are grooves or scoring
13 Locking Collar/Synchronizer Hub for 5th and 6th Gears
• Installed position: High inner collar on synchronizer hub faces the gear wheel for 5th gear
• Removing => [ Remove the
5th gear wheel, the 5th and 6th gear synchronizer hub and the inner
race/needle bearing for the 6th gear wheel by pressing on them. ] Input Shaft
• Installing, refer to => [ Pressing on Synchronizer Hub with Locking

• Assembling locking collar/synchronizer hub, refer to => [ Assembly of Locking Collar/Synchronizer

14 Inner Race/Needle Bearing
• For 6th gear selector gear
• Removing => [ Remove the
5th gear wheel, the 5th and 6th gear synchronizer hub and the inner
race/needle bearing for the 6th gear wheel by pressing on them. ] Input Shaft

15 Needle Bearing
• For 6th gear

21 Inner Race/Needle Bearing
• For 3rd gear

underneath the helical-cut gear
teeth on the 6th gear selector wheel and remove the synchronizer hub
in the 3rd/4th gear together with the inner race/needle bearing(s)
for the 3rd and 4th gear selector wheels. ] Input Shaft
• Installing => [ Inner race/needle bearing for the 3rd gear, pressing on ] Input Shaft
22 Needle Bearing
• For 3rd gear

28 Inner Race/Needle Bearing
• For 4th gear
• Removing => [ Place the

teeth on the 6th gear selector wheel and remove the synchronizer hub
in the 3rd/4th gear together with the inner race/needle bearing(s)
for the 3rd and 4th gear selector wheels. ] Input Shaft

33 4th Gear Wheel
34 Thrust Washer
• For 4th gear selector gear
35 Ball Bearing
• Removing => [ Place the
underneath the helical-cut gear
teeth on the 4th gear selector wheel and remove the ball bearing by
pressing on it. ] Input Shaft
• Installing => [ Press on the ball bearing until it hits the end stop. ] Input Shaft
36 Adjusting Shim
• To select the correct thickness => [ Determine Shim Thickness as Follows: ] Input Shaft
37 Locking Ring
Checking the Input Shaft for Wear
• If the surface of the input shaft - arrow - is visibly damaged near the needle bearing in the dual mass flywheel, then replace both the input shaft and the needle bearing. Refer to => [ Dual Mass Flywheel Needle Bearing ] Dual Mass Flywheel Needle Bearing.
• Check the input shaft near the bearing in the drive plate - arrow - for scoring. Replace the needle bearing in the drive plate if necessary.
