Stone Chip Protective Molding







Stone Chip Protective Molding

The vehicle must reach room temperature before installing bonded moldings or trim.

All adhesion surfaces must be free of dust and grease.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Roller (3356)

Trim Removal Wedge (3409)

Hot air Blower (VAS 1978/14A)

Adhesive Strip Remover (VAS 6349)

Cleaning solution (D 009 401 04)

Sealant, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA)

Removing






- Carefully warm the stone chip protective molding - 1 - with the (VAS 1978/14A).

- Carefully pry the stone chip protective molding off the sill - 2 - in - direction of arrow - using the (3409).

- Remove the stone chip protective molding.

Installation






Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Moldings and Trim Overview ] Moldings and Trim Overview.

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following:

Replace damaged clips.

- Slide the new clip - 3 - onto the pin - 1 - - arrow -.

The arrow - 2 - on the clip must point in the direction of travel.

- Use (VAS 6349) to remove any remaining adhesive.

- Clean the adhesive surfaces with cleaning solution (D 009 401 04).

- Peel off a little of the protective film - 2 - and - 4 - on both ends of the adhesive tape as illustrated.






If necessary, use the pull assist - 5 - to remove the protective film on the ends of the stone chip protective molding.

- Apply a bead of adhesive - 3 - on both ends of the stone chip protective molding.

- Mount the stone chip protective molding - 2 - on the clips and push it all the way to the rear in direction of travel.






- Peel off the protective film - 1 - in sequence - A through D - and press the entire length of the stone chip protective molding with the (3356).

Resting time approximately 3.5 hours at room temperature
