Stone Chip Protective Molding
• The vehicle must reach room temperature before installing bonded moldings or trim.
• All adhesion surfaces must be free of dust and grease.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Roller (3356)
• Trim Removal Wedge (3409)
• Hot air Blower (VAS 1978/14A)
• Adhesive Strip Remover (VAS 6349)
• Cleaning solution (D 009 401 04)
• Sealant, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA)
Removing
- Carefully warm the stone chip protective molding - 1 - with the (VAS 1978/14A).
- Carefully pry the stone chip protective molding off the sill - 2 - in - direction of arrow - using the (3409).
- Remove the stone chip protective molding.
Installation
• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Moldings and Trim Overview ] Moldings and Trim Overview.
Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following:
• Replace damaged clips.
- Slide the new clip - 3 - onto the pin - 1 - - arrow -.
• The arrow - 2 - on the clip must point in the direction of travel.
- Use (VAS 6349) to remove any remaining adhesive.
- Clean the adhesive surfaces with cleaning solution (D 009 401 04).
- Peel off a little of the protective film - 2 - and - 4 - on both ends of the adhesive tape as illustrated.
• If necessary, use the pull assist - 5 - to remove the protective film on the ends of the stone chip protective molding.
- Apply a bead of adhesive - 3 - on both ends of the stone chip protective molding.
- Mount the stone chip protective molding - 2 - on the clips and push it all the way to the rear in direction of travel.
- Peel off the protective film - 1 - in sequence - A through D - and press the entire length of the stone chip protective molding with the (3356).
• Resting time approximately 3.5 hours at room temperature
