Combination Valve, Checking
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Hand vacuum pump
Test conditions
• Hose connections properly sealed.
Work sequence
- Remove the engine compartment trim.
- Remove the engine cover - 2 -.
- Remove the air filter housing bolts - arrows -.
- Remove the air guide hoses - 1 - and - 6 - from the air filter housing.
- Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor (G70) - 5 - and the mass air flow (MAF) sensor 2 (G246) - 3 - electrical connectors.
- Loosen the hose clamps - 2 - and - 4 - and remove the air filter housing.
• Left secondary air combination valve shown. The right secondary air combination valve is similar.
- Remove the vacuum hose - 3 - from secondary air injection (AIR) combination valve.
- Press the release buttons in and remove the secondary air hose - 4 -.
- Connect a hand vacuum pump on vacuum connection - 1 - of the secondary air combination valve to be tested.
- Connect a suitable assisting hose to secondary air combination valve - 2 -.
- Blow into assisting hose using light pressure (do not use pressurized air).
The secondary air combination valve must remain closed preventing air from passing through.
- Operate the hand vacuum pump to create a vacuum
The secondary air combination valve must open allowing air to pass through.
If the secondary air combination valve does not open and close, or is stuck:
- Replace the faulty secondary air combination valve.
