• Removing
- Remove backrest cover panel.
- Pry fastening strips - 10 - (quantity: 4) out with a screwdriver.
- Insert foil between upholstery and backrest frame to protect against metal particles.
- Drill out rivet - 7 -.
- Disengage lumbar support frame - 4 - from backrest frame at top on left and right sides.
- Disconnect electrical harness connectors at actuators - 5 - and - 9 - for lumbar adjustment.
- Disconnect Velcro fastener between lumbar support - 2 - and backrest cushion - 1 -.
- Disengage upper lumbar support at lumbar support frame.
- Remove lumbar support.
• Installing:
Installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
- Place a plastic foil over Velcro strips of lumbar support. Secure plastic foil to lumbar support => [ Secure lumbar support using the assembly safety
guard and secure plastic foil to lumbar support ].
- Make sure lumbar support is secured to lumbar support frame using the transport protection device or suitable pin => [ Secure lumbar support using the assembly safety
guard and secure plastic foil to lumbar support ].
- Place lumbar support frame behind backrest frame and engage lumbar support frame on left and right at top in mount on backrest frame.
- Rivet lower lumbar support frame to backrest frame, a plastic disk must always be placed between lumbar support frame and backrest frame when doing so => [ Riveting four-way lumbar support to lumbar support
frame ].
- Remove plastic foil between backrest cushion and lumbar support.
- Press Velcro fastener of lumbar support on backrest cushion.
- Connect electrical harness connectors to motors for lumbar adjustment.
5 Actuator for Lumbar Height Adjustment

6 Assembly Safety Guard
For centering lumbar support to lumbar support frame
7 Rivet
• Rivet using (V.A.G 1753 A)
• Before riveting, plastic disk must be inserted between lumbar support and lumbar support frame

9 Lumbar Support Curvature Adjustment Motor
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Lumbar Support Adjustment Motors, New Version ]
10 Fastening Strips
Secure lumbar support using the assembly safety guard and secure plastic foil to lumbar support
- Place a plastic foil - 1 - over Velcro strips - 2 - of lumbar support. Secure plastic foil to lumbar support.
- Make sure lumbar support is secured to lumbar support frame using the transport protection device - 3 - or suitable pin.
Riveting four-way lumbar support to lumbar support frame
- Before securing rivet - 4 -, a plastic disk - 1 - must be placed between lumbar support - 2 - and backrest frame - 3 -.

• Removing
• When replacing actuator, lumbar support must not be at an end position.
- Remove backrest cover panel.
- Disconnect electrical harness connector. Refer to => [ Disconnecting electrical harness connector and
disengaging retaining bracket at actuator ].
- Disengage retaining bracket and remove actuator upward. Refer to => [ Disconnecting electrical harness connector and
disengaging retaining bracket at actuator ].
• Installing:
Installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
- Actuator can only be installed in one position.

Disconnecting electrical harness connector and disengaging retaining bracket at actuator
• When replacing actuator, lumbar support must not be at an end position.
- Disconnect the connector - 1 -.
- Disengage retaining bracket - 2 - using a screwdriver and remove actuator - 3 -.
Headrests with Locking Mechanism
Removing
- Push release button - 2 - in - direction of arrow A - and pull headrest - 1 - upward as far as possible - arrow B -, keep release button pushed while doing so.
- Press release button - 2 - on headrest - 1 - until stop - arrow -.
- Slide headrest down completely on rods, release button on headrest must be kept pressed while doing so.
- Remove headrest completely from headrest guides.
Installation
To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.
Rear Footwell Lighting
Removing
- Press out rear footwell light - 1 - from rear.
- Remove connector - 2 -.
Installing
To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.
Lower Seat Frame
CAUTION!
• Observe safety precautions for work on airbags.
• Before handling any airbag units (for example, when disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
- Remove front seat.
- Attach front seat to (VAS 6136). Refer to => [ Front Seat, Installing on Seat Repair Tool ] Front Seat, Installing on Seat Repair Tool.
- Remove the backrest.
- Remove cover with seat pan upholstery:
• Standard seat, refer to => [ Seat Pan Cover and Upholstery, Standard Seat ] Seat Pan Cover and Upholstery, Standard Seat
• Sport seat, refer to => [ Seat Pan Cover and Upholstery, Sport Seat ] Seat Pan Cover and Upholstery, Sport Seat.
- Disconnect electrical connectors if necessary.
Seat pan upper frame, replacing
- Remove spring mat with wiring harness from seat pan upper frame.
Continuation: Upper or lower frame, replacing
- Remove bolts - 1 - (quantity: 3).
- Remove the bolt - 4 -.
- Remove the bolt - 5 -.
- Remove seat pan upper frame - 2 - upward from lower frame - 3 -.
- Be careful of bushings - 1 - in bearing points.
2 Lower seat pan frame
CAUTION!
• Do not damage bushings - 1 - inserted in all bearing points when separating or disassembling upper and lower frame.
• The bushings cannot be replaced with workshop materials.
• If the bushings are damaged, the corresponding assembly parts must be replaced.
- Remove Driver Seat Height Adjustment Motor (V245) or Front Passenger's Seat Height Adjustment Motor (V246).
- Remove the driver seat angle adjustment motor (V243) or front passenger seat angle adjustment motor (V244).
Seat pan, assembling
Installation is in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
CAUTION!
• Observe safety precautions for work on airbags.
• Before handling any airbag units (for example, when disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
- Install removed Driver Seat Height Adjustment Motor (V245) or Front Passenger's Seat Height Adjustment Motor (V246) in new seat pan lower frame. Refer to => [ Driver and Front Passenger Height Adjustment Motors ].
- Install the driver seat angle adjustment motor (V243) or front passenger seat angle adjustment motor (V244) in the new seat pan lower frame.
- Install spring mat with wiring harness in seat pan upper frame.
- Do not damage bushings - 1 - during further assembly.
CAUTION!
• Do not damage bushings - 1 - inserted in all bearing points when separating or disassembling upper and lower frame.
• The bushings cannot be replaced with workshop materials.
• If the bushings are damaged, the corresponding assembly parts must be replaced.
• Ensure that electrical connections are pushed in as far as stop and engage with a click.
- Switch on ignition.
CAUTION!
Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.
- Connect battery ground cable with ignition switched on.
- If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (K75) indicates a fault after installation, DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again.

Spring Mat with Seat Pan Wiring Harness

• Fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136)

2 Spring Mat With Wiring Harness
• Removing
- Remove the seat.
- Mount the (VAS 6136) on the (VAS 6095).
- Attach the front seat to the (VAS 6136).
- Remove side trim on sill side.
- Remove side trim on tunnel side.
- Remove belt buckle. Refer to => [ Belt Latch Anchorage Point ] Belt Latch Anchorage Point.
- Remove the backrest.
- Remove cover and padding from seat pan. Refer to => [ Seat Pan Cover and Upholstery, Sport Seat ] Seat Pan Cover and Upholstery, Sport Seat.
- Remove cable ties - 1 - (quantity: 4).
- Disengage spring mat - 2 - at - A - positions (quantity: 2).
- Disengage spring mat - 2 - at - B - positions (quantity: 4).
- Tip seat to side.
- Disconnect connectors - 3 - (quantity: 3).
- On vehicles with belt fastening detection, loosen the wire.
- Remove the screw - 5 -.
- Remove spring mat with wiring harness - 2 -.
• Installing
Installation is in reverse order of removal. Be sure to note the following:
- If metal tabs - A - and - B - are damaged, replace seat pan.

Removing

- Remove front seat:
• Front seat (standard seat). Refer to => [ Standard Front Seat ] Standard Front Seats
• Front seat (memory seat, electric seat). Refer to => [ Power Front Memory Seat ].
- Remove backrest panel:
• Front seat (standard seat). Refer to => [ Backrest Cover ] Standard Front Seats
• Front seat (memory seat, electric seat). Refer to => [ Backrest Cover ]
- Pry fastening strips - 6 - (quantity: 4) out with a screwdriver.
- Insert foil between upholstery and backrest frame to protect against metal particles.
- Drill out rivet - 5 -.
- Disconnect electrical connectors at lumbar support curvature and height adjustment motors - 4 - and - 7 -.
- Disengage four-way lumbar support - 3 - with springs - 2 - (quantity: 2) at backrest frame - 3 -.
- Disconnect Velcro connector between lumbar support - 2 - and backrest padding - 1 -.
- Disengage lumbar support - 2 - at top of support frame - 3 -.
- Remove lumbar support frame - 3 - with lumbar support - 2 -.
Installation
CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for work on airbags.
- Lay plastic film - 1 - over Velcro strips - 4 - on lumbar support. Secure plastic film on lumbar support.
- Ensure lumbar support is attached to lumbar support frame with assembly fastener - 5 - or a suitable screw.
- Position four-way lumbar support frame behind backrest frame and engage top of frame - 3 - in mounts on backrest frame at left and right with springs - 2 -.
- Before securing rivet - 4 -, a plastic washer - 1 - must be placed between lumbar support - 2 - and backrest frame - 3 -.
- Rivet lumbar support frame - 2 - with backrest frame - 3 -.
- Remove plastic film between backrest padding and lumbar support.
- Press lumbar support Velcro fastener onto backrest padding to secure.
- Connect electrical connectors at curvature and height adjustment motors.
Installation is in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

• Ensure that electrical connections are pushed in as far as stop and engage with a click.
- Switch on ignition.
