Removing
CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for work on airbags.
- Bring seat into service position. Refer to => [ Front Seat, Bringing to Service Position ] Front Seat, Bringing to Service Position.
- Remove assembly cover.
- Remove seat belt anchor. Refer to => [ Seat Belt Anchor ] Seat Belt Anchor./
- Remove front bolts - 1 - (quantity: 2).
2 Front seat
- Operate seat forward/back adjuster and move the seat - 2 - as far forward as possible.
- Remove rear bolts - 1 - (quantity: 2).
- Disconnect battery ground wire.
CAUTION!
Before handling any airbag units (for example, when disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
- Unclip connector station cover - 7 -. Refer to => [ Modular Wire Routing with Corrugated Tube on Front Seat ] Modular Wire Routing with Corrugated Tube on Front Seat.
- Disengage cover - 7 - and remove.
- Release wiring bracket - 5 - and remove it from connector station - 8 -.
- Press retaining tabs - arrows - on wiring bracket to do this.
- Disconnect connectors - 1 -, - 2 -, - 3 - and - 4 - on connector station located in floor - 7 -. Refer to => [ Connectors, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Connectors, Disconnecting and Connecting.
- Connect (VAS 6281). Refer to => [ Airbag Adapter, Connecting ] Airbag Adapter, Connecting.
- With a second technician, lift front seat out of vehicle.
Installation
Installation is in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
CAUTION!
• Observe safety precautions for work on airbags.
• Before handling any airbag units (for example, when disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
- Remove Airbag Adapter (VAS 6036) only after installing front seat. Refer to => [ Airbag Adapter, Connecting ] Airbag Adapter, Connecting.
• Ensure that electrical connections are pushed in as far as stop and engage with a click.
- Connect connector to couplings on connector station location in floor. Refer to => [ Connectors, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Connectors, Disconnecting and Connecting.
- Switch on ignition.
CAUTION!
Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.
- Connect battery ground cable with ignition switched on.
- If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (K75) indicates a fault after installation, DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again.

Front Seat with Faulty Control Module or Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor
• The seat pan is shown without upholstery and backrest in illustration to provide a better overview.
Removing
CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for work on airbags.
- If possible, move seat as high up as possible.
- Remove the bolt - 3 -.
- Disconnect threaded connection - 4 -.
CAUTION!
Loosen bolts - 2 - only after checking electrical or electronic components and wires.
After loosening bolts - 2 -, lower part of seat pan - 4 - including Seat Fore/Aft Adjustment Motor (V288) must be replaced with transverse member.
- Fold seat fully toward front. Remove steering wheel, if necessary. Refer to => [ Steering Wheel ] Steering Wheel.
CAUTION!
Before handling any airbag units (for example, when disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
• Check electrical and electronic components and wires before removing seat further to avoid unnecessary repair costs.
- Perform the following tests:
• Check fuse.
• Check voltage at connector station, perform Fault Finding if necessary.
• Check voltage to control module.
• Check the voltage to the seat forward/back adjustment motor (V288).
- Replace the fuse if faulty.
- If there is no voltage at the connector station, repair or replace the wire.
- Replace the control module if faulty. Refer to => [ Memory Seat/Steering Column Adjustment Control Module or Passenger Memory Seat Control Module ].
- Replace the seat pan lower frame if the seat forward/back adjustment motor (V288) is faulty. Refer to => [ Lower Seat Frame ].
Continue removing only if the seat forward/back adjustment motor (V288) is faulty
- Disconnect battery ground wire.
- Remove transverse member bolts - 2 - (quantity: 4) on both sides.
CAUTION!
Before handling any airbag units (for example, when disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
- Disconnect connector at Seat Fore/Aft Adjustment Motor (V288).
- Move seat until bolts - 1 - (quantity: 4) are visible.
- Remove bolts - 1 - (quantity: 4).
- Disconnect connectors on connector station. Refer to => [ Connectors, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Connectors, Disconnecting and Connecting.
- Connect (VAS 6036). Refer to => [ Airbag Adapter, Connecting ] Airbag Adapter, Connecting.
