Automatically Shifted Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Adjustments






Selector Lever Cable, Check and Adjust if Necessary

Checking Selector Lever Cable

Selector mechanism checked. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism, Checking ] Selector Mechanism, Checking.

- Press the button and move the selector lever to the rear approximately 5 mm out of "P" and hold it there. Do not move it into "R".

- Release selector lever.

Selector lever must jump back to position "P" on its own

- Adjust the selector lever if necessary.

- Move the selector lever into "N".

- Press the button and move the selector lever forward approximately 5 mm out of "N" and hold it there. Do not move it into "D".

- Release selector lever.

Selector lever must jump back to position "N" on its own

- Adjust the selector lever if necessary.

- Press the button and move the selector lever forward approximately 5 mm out of "N" and hold it there. Do not move it into "R".

- Release selector lever.

Selector lever must jump back to position "N" on its own

- Adjust the selector lever if necessary.

Adjusting Selector Lever Cable

- Turn off the ignition.

Vehicles with a 2.0 Liter TFSI Engine:

- Disconnect the connector - 1 - on the mass airflow (MAF) sensor (G70).





- Unclip the air intake connection - front arrows -.

- Remove the engine cover - rear arrows -.

Vehicles with a TDI Common Rail Engine:

- Remove the engine cover - arrows -.





- Remove the air filter housing.

All Vehicles:

- Make sure lock washer - A - is inserted correctly and locked downward.





Ignore - 1, C, D -.

- Move the selector lever from "P" to "S".

- Check the front protective boot on the selector lever cable for damage; replace the cable if necessary.

- Move the selector lever into "P".

Selector mechanism and selector lever cable must move freely. If necessary, replace selector lever cable, refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable ] Selector Lever Cable or service selector mechanism. Up to 11.2009 => [ Selector Mechanism Function Unit ] Selector Mechanism Function Unit or from 11.2009 => [ Selector Mechanism Function Unit ] Selector Mechanism Function Unit.

- Loosen the bolt - B -.

- Set transmission shift lever on the transmission to "P".

- Turn both front wheels in one direction (for example, by pushing the vehicle forward) until the detent lever in the transmission engages the parking lock gear and the wheels lock up (cannot be turned together in one direction).

With clamp bolt - B - loosened, shift mechanism selector lever must remain in position "P", otherwise adjustment will be incorrect.

- Carefully move the selector lever forwards and backwards slightly without shifting to a different selector lever position.

This loosens the selector lever cable.

- Carefully tighten the bolt - B - to 13 Nm).

When removing the bolt - B -, make sure that the selector lever cable does not move at all.

- Assemble all components in reverse sequence.
