Headrest Cover and Upholstery, with Locking Mechanism

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Trim Removal Wedge (3409)

Removing

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

- Remove headrests. Refer to:

Side Locks, Opening






- Open the side locks - arrows - on the cover - 1 -.

- Slide the (3409) or a flat-head screwdriver in the direction of - arrow A - between the cover lock - 1 -.






- Bend the lower U-channel - 3 - in the direction of - arrow B -.

- Pull the upper side of the cover with the flat channel - 2 - out of the U-channel.

Main Lock, Opening






- Slide the (3409) or a flat-head screwdriver between the cover lock.

- Bend the lower U-channel - 1 - in the direction of - arrow A -.

- Pull the upper side of the cover with the flat channel - 2 - out of the U-channel - 1 -.

The cover must be completely open to remove the upholstery.

- Remove the padding - 1 - from the cover - 2 -.






Installing

- Insert cushion - 1 - into cover - 2 - and make sure it fits properly.

- Insert headrest mount in upholstery with cover.

Main Lock, Closing






- Fold the upper flat channel - 1 - for the cover - 2 - down.

- Slide the edge of the fabric with the flat channel into the U-channel - 5 -.

Side Locks, Closing

- Closing the side locks is similar to the closing the main lock.

After Closing the Main and Side Locks

- Using a needle or a tool with a point, align the cover and the channels.

- Ensure the cover sits on the upholstery - 3 - without any wrinkles and without seam markings.

- With manual headrests, install the height adjustment release button.

- Insert the release button through the cover and the upholstery into the headrest support - 4 -.

- Be careful of the release button/headrest support locking device.

- The tab - arrow A - on the release button - 1 - must align with the slit - arrow B - in the button mount on the headrest support - 2 -.






- Mount the release button into the headrest support.

Installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on.

If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
