Passenger Occupant Detection System Sensor

The front passenger seat occupant sensor (G128) is only installed in the front seat.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hot Air Blower (VAS 1978/14A) , for the comfort seat only

Removing

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.


- Remove the front seat on the passenger side:

Standard seat and Sport seat (manual) => [ Manual Standard Front Seat ] Manual Standard Front Seat.

Standard and Sport Power Seat, Comfort Seat and Super Sport Seat. Refer to => [ Power Standard Front Seat ] Power Standard Front Seat.

- Attach the front seat to the (VAS 6136) => [ Front Seats, Installing on the ] Front Seats, Installing on the Fixture For Seat Repair (VAS 6136).

- Separate the cover from the upholstery (seat pan). Refer to => [ Cover and Padding, Lower Seat Frame without Seat Depth Adjuster, Separating and Connecting ] Cover and Padding, Lower Seat Frame Without Seat Depth Adjuster, Separating and Connecting.

Remove only enough of the cushion so that the seat occupied sensor is accessible.

Standard seat and sport seat (manual or power):






- Remove the seat occupied sensor connector.

- Carefully remove seat occupant sensor - 2 - including circuit board - 4 - from seat cushion - 1 -.

Do not pay attention to the - arrows -.

Comfort seat:






- Carefully warm the heating element - 1 - on the left side using the hot air gun (VAS 1978/14).

- Remove the seat heating element - 2 - - arrow - until the seat occupied sensor - 1 - is freed up.






- Remove the seat occupied sensor connector.






- Carefully remove seat occupant sensor - 4 - including circuit board - 3 - from seat cushion - 1 -.

Super sport seat:






- Remove the seat occupied sensor connector - 2 -.

- Carefully remove seat occupant sensor - 2 - including circuit board - 4 - from seat cushion - 1 -.

Installing

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.


Standard seat and sport seat (manual or power):






- Position circuit board - 4 - for seat occupant sensor - 2 - in opening - 3 - in seat cushion - 1 -.

- Align the seat occupied sensor on the seat upholstery according to the markings - arrows -.

The new seat occupied sensor should be installed in the same location on the seat upholstery as the old seat occupied sensor.

- Remove the protective film and bond the seat occupied sensor firmly to the upholstery.

Comfort seat:






- Position circuit board - 3 - for seat occupant sensor - 4 - in opening - 2 - in seat cushion - 1 -.

- Align the seat occupied sensor on the seat upholstery according to the markings - a -.

Dimension - a - = 20 mm (0.78 in)

The new seat occupied sensor should be installed in the same location on the seat upholstery as the old seat occupied sensor.

- Remove the protective film and bond the seat occupied sensor firmly to the upholstery.

Super sport seat:






- Position circuit board - 4 - for seat occupant sensor - 2 - in opening - 3 - in seat cushion - 1 -.

- Align the seat occupied sensor - 2 - on the seat upholstery - 1 - according to the markings - arrows -.

The new seat occupied sensor should be installed in the same location on the seat upholstery as the old seat occupied sensor.

- Remove the protective film and bond the seat occupied sensor - 2 - firmly to the upholstery - 1 -.

Procedure for all seat versions:

Installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

Make sure the seat occupied sensor is not covered by the seat heater element heating coils.

Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on.

If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
