Backrest Release Cable







Backrest Release Cable

The left and right release cables cannot be replaced separately.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Special pop rivet pliers (V.A.G 1753A)

Removing

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components ] Description and Operation.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

- Remove the front seat:

Standard seat and Sport seat (manual), refer to => [ Manual Standard Front Seat ] Manual Standard Front Seat.

Standard seat, sport seat (power) and comfort seat, refer to => [ Power Standard Front Seat ] Power Standard Front Seat.

- Attach the front seat to the (VAS 6136). Refer to => [ Installing the Front Seat on VAS 6136 ] Installing the Front Seat On VAS 6136.

- Remove backrest cover panel. Refer to => [ Backrest Cover ] Backrest Cover.

- Remove headrests, refer to:

- Remove the entry assistance trim. Refer to => [ Entry Assistance Trim ] Entry Assistance Trim.

- Remove the front cover with the cushion. Refer to => [ Backrest Cover with Cushion ] Backrest Cover With Cushion.

- Remove side airbag. Refer to => [ Thorax (Side) Airbag Igniters (N199)/(N200) ] Thorax (Side) Airbag Igniters (N199)/(N200).

The spring mat or lumbar support does not need to be removed when removing and installing the release cables.

- Remove the eyelets - 3 - from the pin - 4 - on both sides with pliers.






Eye injury risk.

Wear protective goggles!

- Remove the left and right rivets - 2 - and remove the bracket - 1 - from the backrest frame - 5 -.

- Remove the entry assistance cover. Refer to => [ Entry Assistance Cover ] Entry Assistance Cover.






- Unclip the end of the release cable - 2 -.

- Press the end of the release cable out of the bracket - 1 - in the direction of the - arrow -.

- Unclip the mount - 1 - from the backrest frame - 2 -.






- Guide the end of the release cable through the mount opening in the backrest frame.

- Cut the cable tie, if necessary, and remove the left and right cables from the backrest frame.

Installing

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components ] Description and Operation.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following:

- Adjust the left and right release cable. Refer to => [ Backrest Release Cable, Adjusting ] Backrest Release Cable, Adjusting.

- Attach a cable tie in the same location as before.

Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Connect the battery Ground (GND) cable with the ignition turned on.

If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory must be checked, deleted and checked again. Refer to Vehicle diagnostic tester.
