• Engine/Transmission Jack (V.A.G 1383 A)
• Transmission Support (3282)
• Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)
• Protective eyewear
Removing
• Transmission installed.
There is a risk of damaging the transmission.
• Do not let the engine run or tow vehicle without gear oil.
• General repair instructions, refer to => [ Repair Information ] Repair Information.
• Clean working conditions for the automatic transmission. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.
- Remove the rear noise insulation - 2 -.
Danger of damaging the flex joint in the front muffler.
• Do not bend the decoupling element in the front muffler more than 10°.
- Loosen the bolts - arrows -, slide the sleeve to the rear and tie up the front muffler to the side.
- Remove the bolts - arrows - and remove the driveshaft heat shield (if equipped).
- Remove the driveshaft.
Danger of damaging the transmission fluid pan.
• Never use the transmission fluid pan as a support for the transmission.
- Install the 2 flat mounts - 1 - and - 2 - in the (3282).
- Mount the (3282) on the (V.A.G 1383 A).
- Support the transmission at the bolting surfaces on the transmission fluid with a rubber pad - 3 - as illustrated.
- Lift the transmission slightly using the (V.A.G 1383 A).
There is the risk of an accident.
• The (V.A.G 1383 A) may only be used during assembly and must not sit unsupervised under the vehicle.
- Remove the bolts from the tunnel crossmember - arrows -.
- Remove the nuts - arrow - and the tunnel crossmember.
- Place the (V.A.G 1782) under the transmission.
- Drain the gear oil from the transfer case. Refer to => [ Transfer Case Gear Oil, Draining and Filling ] Transfer Case Gear Oil, Draining and Filling.
- Lower the transmission with the (V.A.G 1383 A) just far enough until the transmission fluid pan is not touching the crossbrace - A -.
- Remove the bolts from the center differential housing in the following sequence: - 6 to 1 -.
Transmission components could be damaged.
• Carefully remove the center differential housing from the transmission toward the rear. Otherwise the center differential could fall out of the transmission.
- Secure the center differential - 1 - so it does not fall out or remove it toward the rear from the input shaft.
Installing
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
• Replace the center differential housing O-ring.
If the center differential - 1 - was removed:
- Position the center differential on the input shaft splines. Rotate the center differential slightly when doing this.
- Make sure the center differential can be turned by hand.
- Install the housing with the output shaft installed and the new O-ring onto the center differential. Rotate the housing slightly if necessary.
- Tighten the center differential housing bolts => [ Center Differential Housing
- Tightening Specification and Sequence ] Final Drive, Differential (0BKA Automatic Transmission).
- Install tunnel crossmember. Refer to => [ Tunnel Crossmember ] Tunnel Crossmember.
- Install the driveshaft.
- Install exhaust system and adjust free of tension.
- Fill gear oil in transfer case. Refer to => [ Transfer Case Gear Oil, Draining and Filling ] Transfer Case Gear Oil, Draining and Filling.
