Fender Flange

Fender Flange

It is not permitted to perform any repair or reshaping work on the front of the Audi A6 because there is the danger that there may be cracks in the aluminum cast parts, which are not visible.

Observe safety precautions.

If welding or cutting with spark-producing devices/tools or when plating in foamed areas where hazardous gases are produced that are harmful to humans and the environment, these procedures are to be omitted in each case.

Be careful not to damage the hood release cable when removing the longitudinal member.

Separating areas

Cover the suspension strut tower when performing and cutting or welding work.

Partial replacement is possible with the separating cut - 2 -.

Make the top of the fender flange to the bottom of the fender flange separation cuts offset to each other.

- Remove the original joint between the upper and lower fender flanges with a spot weld breaker (V.A.G 1731).

Removing the punch rivets

- Separate the original joint on the upper fender flange and suspension strut tower using a rechargeable riveter (VAS 5279 A).

- . Use rechargeable riveter (VAS 5279 B) with punch S 5 and D 5.

Removing Punch Rivets

- Separate the original joint on the lower fender flange and suspension strut tower using a rechargeable riveter (VAS 5279 A).

- Use rechargeable riveter (VAS 5279 B) with punch S 5 and D 5.

- Remove the original joint between the upper and lower fender flanges with a spot weld breaker (V.A.G 1731).

- Remove the remainder using the single hand angle grinder (VAS 5167).

- Remove an adhesive with a flat blade scraper (VAS 5448).

Preparing New Parts

- Transfer separating cut to the new part and cut with a body repair saw (V.A.G 1523 A).

- Drill the 6.7 mm holes for the rivets using the drill (VAS 5830).

- Transfer the holes for the blind rivet connection from the suspension strut tower.

Preparing the surfaces for applying adhesive

- Prepare new part for riveting procedure.

- Clean the surfaces with silicone remover (LSE 020 100 A3).

- Prepare and clean the adhesion area silicate stone (DA 009 800).

- Apply aluminum primer (DA 009 801) to the surface using the applicator (D 009 500 25).

- Apply 2K body adhesive (DA 001 730 A2) over the area to being riveted using the compressed air adhesive pistol (V.A.G 2005 B).

- Prepare flange on body and new part for welding.

- Apply adhesive.

When using different types of steel and materials of different strengths, one of the resistance spot welders listed and approved by Audi is required to service correctly under.

Welding in

- Adjust and secure the lower fender flange to the alignment bracket set supplement (VAS 6667).

- Rive the lower fender flange with pop rivet pliers (1753 A) 6.5 mm blind rivets.

- Weld the lower fender flange with a straight-line spot weld seam using a resistance spot welder.

- Weld the separating cut with a gas-shielded arc continuous weld seam using a gas-shielded welder (VAS 6045 A).

- Apply 2K body adhesive (DA 001 730 A2) over the complete riveting area on the fender flange using a compressed air adhesive pistol (V.A.G 2005 B).
