Cylinder Head Overview

• The cylinder head for cylinder bank 2 (left) is shown in the illustration.






1 Cylinder Head Gasket

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Cylinder Heads ] Cylinder Heads.

• Installation position: The part number faces toward the cylinder head

• After replacing, change coolant and engine oil

2 Cylinder Head

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Cylinder Heads ] Cylinder Heads

• Check for distortion, refer to => [ Checking Cylinder Head for Distortion ]

• Reworking dimension, refer to => [ Reworking Dimension, Cylinder Head ]

• After replacing, change coolant and engine oil

3 O-ring

• Replace

4 Camshaft Position Sensor

• Cylinder bank 1 (right) Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor (G40)

• Cylinder bank 2 (left) Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor 2 (G163)

5 Bolt

6 Bolt

• Replace

• Observe sequence for loosening => [ Loosen the cylinder head bolts in the following sequence. ] Cylinder Heads

• Tightening specification and sequence, refer to => [ Cylinder Head, Tightening Specifications and Sequence ]

7 Ignition Coil

8 Cylinder Head Cover

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Left Cylinder Head Cover ] Left Cylinder Head Cover, => [ Right Cylinder Head Cover ] Right Cylinder Head Cover

9 Gasket

• Replace if damaged or leaking

10 Cap

11 Hose

• For crankcase ventilation

12 O-ring

• Replace

13 Bolt

• Replace if seal is damaged

• Tightening specifications and sequence, refer to => [ Left Cylinder Head Cover, Tightening Specifications and Sequence ] , => [ Right Cylinder Head Cover, Tightening Specifications and Sequence ]

14 Bolt

15 Connector Strip

• For ignition coils

16 Gasket

• For cylinder head cover

• Replace if damaged or leaking

17 Camshaft Adjustment Solenoid Valve

• Cylinder bank 1 (right) Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 (N205)

• Cylinder bank 2 (left) Camshaft Adjustment Valve 2 (N208)

18 Bolt

• 5 Nm

19 O-ring

• Replace

Left Cylinder Head Cover, Tightening Specifications and Sequence





- Tighten the bolts to 9 Nm in the following sequence: - 1 to 12 -.

Right Cylinder Head Cover, Tightening Specifications and Sequence





- Tighten the bolts to 9 Nm in the following sequence: - 1 to 12 -.

• Replace bolts which have been tightened to an additional torque.

- Tighten the bolts in 4 steps according to the tightening sequence:






Checking Cylinder Head for Distortion





- Check the cylinder head on several locations for distortion using a straight edge 500 mm (VAS 6075) and a feeler gauge.

• Maximum warp: 0.05 mm.

Reworking Dimension, Cylinder Head





Resurfacing cylinder head (face grinding) is only permissible to minimum dimension - a -.

• Minimum dimension - a - = 139.20 mm.

Oil Dipstick Guide Tube - Tightening Specifications





- Tighten the bolt - arrow - to 9 Nm.
