Right Catalytic Converter

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Engine/Transmission Jack (V.A.G 1383 A)

• Transmission Support (T10337)

• Transmission Support (VW 785/1 B)

Removing

• During installation, all cable ties must be installed at the same location.

- Remove the right front muffler. Refer to => [ Front Muffler ] Front Muffler.

- Remove the subframe crossbrace.






Suspension components could be damaged.

• Do not rest the vehicle on its wheels if the subframe mount, steering gear or subframe crossbrace are not installed correctly.

- Remove the plenum chamber bulkhead.

- Remove the throttle valve control module (J338).






- Remove the right coolant pipe from the transmission. Refer to => [ Right Coolant Pipe on Transmission ] Right Coolant Pipe on Transmission.

- Remove the Oxygen Sensor (O2S) after Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) (G130).

- Remove the connectors - 1 through 4 - from the bracket.






- Remove the bolts - arrows - and bracket.

- Remove the nuts - arrows - and the bolt - 1 - and move the right catalytic converter to the rear.






- Remove the bolts and the bracket - 1 - for the exhaust system.






- Remove bolts - arrows - and then remove the heat shield.






- Remove the bolts - 3 - and the right secondary air injection combination valve and move it to the left with the secondary air injection hose still connected as well as the vacuum hose - 2 -.






• Ignore - 1 -.

- Loosen the attachments - arrows - and remove the right upper heat shield - 1 - for the tunnel.






- Position the (T10337) on the (V.A.G 1383 A) and on the bottom of the transmission.






- Lift the transmission slightly with the engine/transmission jack.

Risk of accident.

• Do not lower the (V.A.G 1383 A) during assembly and do not leave it unattended under the vehicle.

- Remove the bolts - arrows - on the tunnel crossmember.






- Lower the tunnel crossmember using the (V.A.G 1383 A) to dimension - a -.






• Dimension - a - = 60 mm maximum.

- Secure the transmission to the (VW 785/1 B) as illustrated.






- Remove the right catalytic converter from the top.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Tightening specifications:

• => [ Muffler Overview ] Muffler Overview

• => [ Individual Catalytic Converter Mounting Components. ] Muffler Overview

• Replace the seals and self-locking nuts.

- Install the tunnel crossmember.

- Install the front tunnel upper heat shield.

- Install the right secondary air injection combination valve. Refer to => [ Secondary Air Injection Right Combination Valve ] Secondary Air Injection Right Combination Valve.

- Install the O2S after TWC (G130).

- Attach the right coolant pipe to the transmission. Refer to => [ Right Coolant Pipe on Transmission ] Right Coolant Pipe on Transmission.

- Install throttle valve control module (J338).

- Install the plenum chamber bulkhead.

- Install the subframe crossbrace.

- Install the front muffler. Refer to => [ Front Muffler ] Front Muffler.
