Hood Assembly Overview

Move the hood, with a deployed pedestrian protection, into its original position before opening it.

Vehicles without pedestrian protection






1 Hood

A second person is needed during removal and installation to support and hold the hood.

Removing

- Remove the gas-filled strut from the hood. Refer to => [ Gas-Filled Strut ] Gas-Filled Strut.

- Remove nuts - 4 - on upper hinge.

- Remove the hood.

Installing: in reverse order.

Adjusting:

- Center the hood between the fenders.

- Adjust the height of the hood over the lower part of the hood lock.

- Adjust the hood to the fenders using the stop buffers => [ Height adjustment stop buffer ] Hood, Adjusting.

3 Hood hinge

For removal and installation, the hood must be removed or supported securely.

Removing

- Remove gas-filled strut => [ Gas-Filled Strut ] Gas-Filled Strut.

- Remove the bolts - 2 - and nuts - 4 -.

Installing: in reverse order.

6 Gas strut

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Gas-Filled Strut ] Gas-Filled Strut.

The gas-filled strut tube is installed on the hood side.

Vehicles with pedestrian protection

If the hood has pedestrian protection that has deployed, then it can be opened only after the hood hinge has been pushed back into it original position.

The hood catch must be pushed back into its original position.

A second person is needed during removal and installation to support and hold the hood.

Removing

- Remove the gas-filled strut from the hood. Refer to => [ Gas-Filled Strut ] Gas-Filled Strut.

- Remove nuts - 4 - on upper hinge.

- Remove the hood.

Installing: in reverse order.

Adjusting:

- Center the hood between the fenders.

- Adjust the height of the hood over the lower part of the hood lock.

- Adjust the hood to the fenders using the stop buffers => [ Height adjustment stop buffer ] Hood, Adjusting.

Hood original position

When the pedestrian protection deploys, the hood will spring up near the windshield. Push is down again to its original position before opening it.

- Use tape to protect the edges on the hood and fender.

- Push the hood hinges - 2 - on both sides back into its original position with a second technician until pedestrian protection trigger 1 - 1 - locks.






Replace the shear pin

- Open the hood.

- Remove the shear pin - 3 - from the hood hinge bearing - 2 -.






Push the hood slightly to the rear when installing the shear pin.

- Install the new shear pin through the lever - 4 - into the roof hinge bearing on the inside of the catch - 1 -.

Catch, Removing and Installing

- Remove the bolts and the hook.

To remove, remove bolts - 2 -.

5 Anti-rotation protection

Note different versions.

Remove bolt for adjusting the height of the hood - 5 - and remove the anti-twist mechanism over the hood catch.

Install or remove the bracket for adjusting the hood.

Tighten the anti-twist mechanism.

Pedestrian Protection Catch, Removing and Installing

If the pedestrian protection deploys, push the hood catch back into it original position.

To remove, remove bolts - 2 -.

- Push the hood catch to the rear - arrow A - into its original position.

For adjusting the height of the hood catch

Hood catch height adjustment

- Unclip and remove the front and rear cover - 1 - to adjust the height.






- Use both nuts - arrows - to adjust.

- Line up both nuts with the indentation in the cover.

- Mount the cover and install the hood catch.
