Climatronic Control Module (J255)

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Removing

- Check the coding and the adaptation of the Climatronic control module via the "replace control module" function of the Guided Fault Finding (if the Climatronic control module is to be replaced) using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

- Switch off the ignition.






To prevent damage to the Climatronic control module and the center console during removal, do not pull too tightly or press.

Do not damage the surface of the center console during removal (cover it if necessary).

If clamps - C - hold the Climatronic control module so securely in the center console that there is a risk that the center console will be damaged during removal, remove the multimedia system control head (E380). With the multimedia system control head removed, carefully press the Climatronic control module - B - from below - direction of the arrow - out of the installation shaft of the center console via installation shaft - A -.

The Climatronic control module is held by clamps - C - in the mounts of center console - E -. Depending on the holding force of clamps - C -, the force needed to remove the Climatronic control module differs.

- Cover the trim of center console - A - so that it cannot be damaged during removal of the Climatronic control module - C -.






- Remove the trim under the insertion shaft to the information electronics control module 1 (J794) - B - and the insertion shaft to the information electronics control module 1.

Remove Climatronic control module if the multimedia system control head is installed and does not need to be removed:

- Carefully press trim - D - above the Climatronic control module - C - for insertion of the (3370) - E - in the direction of the arrow.

- Carefully pull the Climatronic control module - C - with the (3370) - E - out of the mount in the center console.

Remove Climatronic control module if the multimedia system control head is removed or needs to be removed:

- With the multimedia system control head removed, carefully press the Climatronic control module - B - from below - direction of the arrow - out of the installation shaft of the center console via installation shaft - A -.






All:

- Disengage and remove connector - D -.






Risk of confusion with other identical connectors in the center console (identical connectors are for example connector - B - and the connector to the multimedia system control head).

Damage to control modules by connecting an incorrect connector

Label connectors prior to removal from the control modules

- Label connectors - A - to - D -.

- Disengage locking mechanism - E - of connectors - A -, - B -, and - C - and remove the connectors.

Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse order while observing the following.

When replacing a Climatronic control module - B -, ensure exact allocation using Electronic Parts Catalog.






Check clamps - C - for proper seating on brackets - D - of the Climatronic control module - B -.

To prevent damage to the cover of the center console, insert the Climatronic control module - B - into the receiving shaft and then press in carefully.

- After replacement/installation of the Climatronic control module, perform the following steps using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function:

Recode the Climatronic control module (or check the coding)

Perform the basic setting Climatronic control module

Check the event memory of the Climatronic control module (correct any displayed malfunctions) and erase.

Check the adaptation of the Climatronic control module and correct if necessary.

Perform the output diagnostic test mode of the Climatronic control module (depending on the present complaint).
