Active Headrests Additional Safety Precautions

Active Headrests Additional Safety Precautions

Always turn off the ignition whenever working on the active headrests.

If the headrests deploy, they spring approximately 55 mm forward and slightly upward. Do not try to stop an active headrest if it deploys and keep a safe distance away from it.

Both active headrests deploy at the same time. Exception: Vehicles with "reclining seats" do not have an active headrest on the front passenger seat.

Stay a safe distance away from the active headrests when turning on the ignition. No one should be in the vehicle.

Perform the output diagnostic test only after all work procedures have been completed.

Active headrests cannot be disassembled or repaired. Always use new parts.

If both active headrests are being replaced at the same time, then reset the counter in "Guided Fault Finding" or in "Guided Functions". Refer to Vehicle diagnostic tester.

If only 1 active headrest is being replaced, then do not reset the counter.

Active headrests, that have deployed 25 times, must be replaced. A counter for the active headrests keeps track of how many times they have deployed.

The counter stores the total number of times the active headrests have deployed. Use "Guided Fault Finding" or "Guided Functions" to get this number and to reset it. Refer to Vehicle diagnostic tester.

The counter for active headrests can be reset only after it reaches 25 and the headrests have been replaced. The counter is located inside the airbag control module.
