Selector Lever Sensor System Control Module (J587) and Selector Lever Position Sensor (G727)
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Screwdriver (V.A.G 1624)
• ESD Work Surface (VAS 6613)
• Securing Pin : Comes with the new order of a selector lever sensor system control module
• 3 mm Drill Bit , in case the Securing Pin is missing
• Silicone grease (G 052 547 A2)
Removing
- Shifter mechanism function unit, removing. Refer to => [ Shift Mechanism Function Unit ] Shift Mechanism Function Unit.
Danger of causing damage to the electric components inside the selector mechanism through electro-static discharge.
• Do not touch the connectors.
• Disassemble the removed selector mechanism on an (VAS 6613).
• Follow the instructions when working on an (VAS 6613).
- Lay the gearshift mechanism function unit on an (VAS 6613).
• Follow the instructions when working on an (VAS 6613).
• The selector lever sensor system control module and the selector lever position sensor are a single unit - 1 -. They can only be replaced together.
- Remove the bolts - arrows -.
- Remove the selector lever sensor system control module - 1 -.
Installing
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
• For the correct tightening specifications, refer to => [ Selector Mechanism Overview ] Selector Mechanism Overview.
- Position the slotted piece - A - on the sensor on the back of the selector lever sensor system control module facing the arrow - B -.
- Insert the securing pin - 2 - into the opening - C - on the front of the selector lever sensor system control module.
• If the securing pin - 2 - is missing, use a 3 mm drill bit. Install the shaft of the 3 mm drill bit into the opening - C -.
• The force of the spring pushes the sensor segment for the selector lever position sensor all the way in.
• The securing pin - 2 - holds the slotted piece - B - on the sensor segment in place for installing the selector lever sensor system control module into the retainer - A - in the lock lever.
- Lubricate the yoke - A - on the level and the slotted guide rail - B - on the sensor segment lightly with silicone grease (G 052 547 A2).
- Install the selector lever sensor system control module - 1 -, with the securing pin - 2 - installed, into the gearshift mechanism function unit.
• The tab - A - on the lever must fit into the guide - B - on the sensor.
Danger of the selector mechanism malfunctioning.
• Replace the selector lever sensor system control module and the selector lever position sensor if the guide is damaged - B -.
• Replace the gearshift mechanism function unit if the tab - A - on the lever is damaged.
Danger of the selector mechanism not working correctly.
• Always follow the tightening sequence and the torque for the 4 bolts exactly. Refer to => [ Tightening Specification and Sequence ] Selector Mechanism Overview.
• The bolts may come loose if they are not installed exactly. This will lead to malfunctions in the selector lever sensor system control module.
- Install the bolts in the following sequence - 1 through 4 -.
- Remove the securing pin - A -.
