Brake System Indicator Lamps Overview
Brake System Indicator Lamps Overview
1 Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP)
• Blinks when driving if ESP or the traction control engages regularly.
• Comes on when ignition is switched on and goes out after a short self-check.
• Comes on if there is an ESP system malfunction.
• Comes on if there is an ABS system malfunction because ESP and ABS work together.
• Comes on during sensor programming if:
• The battery was disconnected and connected.
• Vehicle was started with jump start.
• The battery is too weak.
• After the sensor programming procedure, the ESP light goes out after driving a short distance.
• If the ESP/ASR and the ABS indicator lamps illuminate together, this means there is a malfunction in the ABS and in the electronic differential lock.
• The vehicle can still be braked as normally, however the ABS will not work.
2 Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP) Off
3 Electromechanical Parking Brake
• Blinks after engaging the electromechanical parking brake if the brake pressure is not sufficient to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
• Lights up when the electromechanical parking brake is engaged and the ignition is turned on.
• Lights up for 20 seconds when the electromechanical parking brake is engaged and the ignition is switched off.
• If the indicator lamp blinks and a driver message appears, then there is not enough braking force available for the vehicle.
4 Brake System
• Turns on when the brake fluid is too low.
• Turns on if there is a malfunction in the ABS system.
• Turn on if there is a malfunction in the electromechanical parking brake.
• Turns on when a brake pad has reached its wear limit.
• Turns on with the ABS indicator lamp when the ABS system malfunctions.
• Blinks when there is a malfunction in the brake system.
5 ABS Indicator Lamp
• The indicator lamp monitors the ABS and the Electronic Differential Lock (EDL).
• Lights up for several seconds when ignition is switched on and goes out after an automatic ABS system self-check if there are no malfunctions in the ABS system.
• There is an ABS malfunction if the indicator light:
• Does not light up when ignition is switched on.
• Does not go out after a few seconds.
• Lights up while driving.
• ABS malfunctions have no effect on the brake system. However, a change in braking behavior should be checked.
• The Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) and ABS work together. The ABS indicator light lights up when the EDL malfunctions.
• The ABS, ESP and the brake pressure allocation have malfunction when the ABS, ESP and ASR indicator lamps turn on together with the brake system indicator lamp.
