Left Catalytic Converter

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Engine/Transmission Jack (V.A.G 1383 A)

Transmission Support (T10337)

Removing

- Remove the left front muffler. Refer to => [ Front Muffler ] Front Muffler.

- Remove the heated oxygen sensor 2 (G108) and oxygen sensor 2 after catalytic converter (G131).






- Remove the subframe crossbrace.






Suspension components could be damaged.

Do not rest the vehicle on its wheels if the subframe mount, steering gear or subframe crossbrace are not installed correctly.

- Position the (T10337) on the (V.A.G 1383 A).






- Position the (T10337) on the bottom of the transmission.

- Lift the transmission slightly with the engine/transmission jack.

Risk of accident.

Do not lower the (V.A.G 1383 A) during assembly and do not leave it unattended under the vehicle.

- Remove the bolts - arrows - on the tunnel crossmember.






- Lower the tunnel crossmember using the (V.A.G 1383 A) to dimension - a -.






Dimension - a - = 80 mm maximum.

The airbag spiral spring could be damaged.

Separate universal joint from steering gear only when front wheels are in straight ahead position.

Do not change steering wheel position and steering gear position any more, secure steering wheel with adhesive tape.

- Remove universal joint bolt - arrow -.






- Press the CV joint off the steering gear and slide it all the way up.

- Remove the nuts - arrows - and the left catalytic converter.






Installing

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Muffler Overview ] Muffler Overview.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Replace the seals and self-locking nuts.

- Install the universal joint on the steering gear.

- Install the tunnel crossmember.

- Install the subframe crossbrace.

- Install the oxygen sensors (G108) and (G131).

- Install the front muffler. Refer to => [ Front Muffler ] Front Muffler.
