Hood Hinge

Vehicles without pedestrian protection






1 Gas strut

Install the gas-filled strut tube on the hood side.

Removal, refer to => [ Gas-Filled Strut ] Gas-Filled Strut

2 Nut

21 Nm

3 Hood hinge

- Before removing a hinge, support the lid or secure it against falling.

- Remove gas-filled strut => [ Gas-Filled Strut ] Gas-Filled Strut.

Remove the bolts - 5 - and nuts - 2 -.

Installing: in reverse order.

1 Hood hinge

- Before removing a hinge, support the lid or secure it against falling.

- Remove gas-filled strut. Refer to => [ Gas-Filled Strut ] Gas-Filled Strut.

- Remove hood hinge pedestrian protection trigger 1.

Remove the bolts - 5 - and nuts - 2 -.

Installing: in reverse order.

Install the gas-filled strut tube on the hood side.

Removal => [ Gas-Filled Strut ] Gas-Filled Strut

Pedestrian Protection Trigger 1 (G598) , Removing and Installing

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnical components.






1 Pedestrian protection trigger 1 (G598)

Removing

- Switch the ignition on.

- Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition switched on.

Before working with pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

- Disconnect the connector - 6 - and unclip the hood hinge.

- Remove the cap - 3 - and the nut - 2 -.

- Remove the bolts - 4 - and pedestrian protection trigger 1 (G598).

Installing

Before working with pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

- Push the pedestrian protection trigger 1 (G598) onto the pins on the hood hinge and then tighten the nuts.

- Tighten bolts to tightening specification.

- Tighten the nuts to the tightening specification.

Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Disconnect the battery ground wire with the ignition switched on.

If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (K75) indicates a fault after installation, DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again. Refer to Vehicle diagnostic tester.
