Brake Caliper and Brake Carrier

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque wrench (V.A.G 1332)

Vehicle diagnostic, test and information system (VAS 5051 x)

Removing

- Turn off the ignition and connect the (VAS 505 x) to the 16-pin diagnostic connection.






Switch on ignition

parking brake released

Coding check and reported if necessary.

DTC memory interrogated, errors shown corrected and DTC memory erased.

- Start the program in Guided Functions.

- Switch off the ignition

- Raise vehicle.

- Remove wheels.

- Disconnect the connector for the brake pad wear display - arrow -.





- Release the connector from the mount while turning it 90° at the same time.





- Remove the connector from the bracket.

- Unclip the wire from the bracket on the stub axle carrier.

- Remove the bolts from the brake carrier - 12 -.






- Remove the brake caliper with brake pads and the brake carrier.

- Hang the brake caliper with the brake carrier on the body with wire.

Do not let the brake caliper with the brake carrier hang on the brake hose. Do not support the weight with the brake hose.

Do not actuate the brakes or the electromechanical parking brake when the brake caliper is removed.

Installing

Use new bolts - 12 -. Allocation, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).





- Carefully press the brake caliper with the brake carrier and the brake pads installed over the brake disc.

- Install the brake carrier - 11 - with new bolts - 12 -.

Make sure the brake hose is routed correctly. Make sure the brake hose is not blocked, bent or rubbing against the vehicle.

- Clip the electrical wires into the bracket on the stub axle carrier.

Make sure the wire are installed correctly in the brackets on the stub axle carrier so that they can come out of the brackets on their own.

- Connect the connector - 2 - for the brake pad wear display wire.





- Install wheels.

- Lower the vehicle.

Wheel bolt tightening specifications, refer to => Wheel and Tire Guide Specifications.

- Turn off the ignition and connect the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 505 x) to the 16-pin diagnostic connection.






Switch on ignition

parking brake released

Coding check and reported if necessary.

DTC memory interrogated, errors shown corrected and DTC memory erased.

- Start the program in Guided Functions.

After installing, press the brake pedal several times firmly to properly seat brake pads in their normal operating position.

Make sure the brakes are working correctly before driving the vehicle for the first time.
