Driver Seat Position Sensor and Front Passenger Seat Position Sensor G553/G554, Vehicles with Seat Occupied Sensor for Belt Fastening Detection
Driver seat position sensor (G553) / front passenger seat position sensor (G554)
The seat position sensor is provided as a replacement part with the wiring harness and the black 10-pin harness connector. The following wires with connectors are contained in the wiring harness:
• Wire with seat belt latch coupling connector (driver seat)
• Wire with seat belt latch coupling connector (passenger seat)
• Wire with front passenger seat occupied sensor (G128) coupling connector.
Removing
• Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and Testing Procedures ] Description and Operation.
• Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the electrical connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching the door striker, for example.
- Remove the front seat. Refer to => [ Standard Seat ] Standard Seat.
- Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136). Refer to => [ Installing Front Seat on Fixture for Seat Repair VAS 6136 ] Installing Front Seat on Fixture for Seat Repair VAS 6136.
- Remove the screw - 3 -.
- Disengage the hook - arrow - of the seat position sensor - 2 - from the seat pan lower frame - 1 -.
- Unclip and free up the electrical wire from the seat pan lower frame.
- Open corrugated tube and remove electrical wire with 10-pin belt latch connector:
• connector station harness connectors. Refer to => [ Connector Station Connectors ] Connector Station Connectors.
• Modular wiring with corrugated tube on front seat. Refer to => [ Modular Wire Routing with Corrugated Tube on Standard Seat ] Modular Wire Routing with Corrugated Tube on Standard Seat.
Driver seat:
- Open the cable ties or cable clips up to the electrical connector - 1 -.
- Disconnect the connectors:
2 Wire for the 10-pin connector (black) and driver seat position sensor (G553)
3 Wire to the seat belt latch
• The electrical harness connector - 1 - together with the wire and wire clip remain on the seat pan upper frame.
- Remove the seat position sensor together with the electrical wires from the seat pan lower frame.
Front passenger seat:
- Open the cable ties or cable clips up to the electrical connectors - 2 - and - 6 -.
- Disconnect the connectors:
1 Wire to the seat belt latch
3 Wire to the black 10-pin electrical harness connector and seat belt latch
4 Wire to the black 10-pin connector and driver seat position sensor (G554)
5 Wire to the front passenger seat occupied sensor (G128)
• Harness connectors - 2 - and - 6 - with the wires and wire clips remain on the seat pan upper frame.
- Remove the seat position sensor together with the electrical wires from the seat pan lower frame.
Installing
• Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and Testing Procedures ] Description and Operation.
• Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, connecting the electrical connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching the door striker, for example.
• Observe all measures when installing the front seat. Refer to => [ Standard Seat ] Standard Seat.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
