Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 11 - 89 dated June 20, 2011 for reasons listed below.
Affected Vehicles
Condition
^ The customer complaint is the image from the rearview backup camera does not show on the MMI screen.
^ The control unit for the rearview backup camera is not installed from the factory.
^ This affects all vehicles with PR No. SK6 "Preparation for rear view camera for retrofitting".
Technical Background
The "preparation" for the rearview backup camera system, which includes the camera, wiring, and mounting bracket for control unit, is installed in the vehicle without the camera control unit. Global bottlenecks at individual vehicle component suppliers are impacting the availability of the rearview camera for 201 2MY Audi vehicles.
The following vehicles are affected:
^ 2011MY - 2012MY A4/S4 & A5/S5 vehicles with the Audi parking system with rearview camera (rear ultrasonic sensors only).
^ 2011MY - 2012MY Q5, Q7, and A8 vehicles with the Audi parking system plus with rearview camera (front & rear ultrasonic sensors).
^ 2012MY A6 & A7 vehicles with the Audi parking system plus with rearview camera (front & rear ultrasonic sensors).
^ All affected vehicles have a special PR No. SK6.
For A4/S4 & A5/S5 vehicles:
When the Audi rear parking system is activated, the image in the MMI screen will not change from its current view, only the audio feedback can be heard when the parking system is activated.
For Q5/Q7/A6/A7/A8 vehicles:
When the Audi parking system plus is activated the only image available in the MMI screen will be the "graphical view," see Figure 1. All audio feedback functions normally.
The only way to identify if a vehicle was built without the camera control unit is to verify in ElsaWeb if PR No. SK6 is listed in the "Vehicle Data" section for each VIN (Figure 2).
Production Solution
Not applicable.
Service
Control units for retrofitting the vehicles are not available at this time. Please inform the customer that Audi of America will inform the dealers as soon as parts are available for ordering.
Additional service work will be required for proper retrofitting of the control unit (SVM software updates using an SVM code), thus do not attempt any retrofits until the official communication is sent out to the dealer network. The SVM code has not been developed, thus it is not available.
Note:
Do not take control units from other vehicles and place them in an affected vehicle. The system will not function.
There is a parts ordering block on all Audi camera control units until further notice.
