Fuel Tank with Reducing Agent Metering System, Draining

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Wrench (T10202)

• Fuel Extracting Device (VAS 5190)

• Carpet knife, commercially available

Procedure

Follow all safety precautions. Refer to => [ Safety Precautions ] Fuel Supply System.

Follow the guidelines for cleanliness. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Fuel Supply System.

- Turn off ignition and remove ignition key.

- Remove the cone piece - 2 - from the shaft piece - 1 - on the (VAS 5190).






- Using insulating tape, apply a mark - arrow - on hose at length - a - = 1,775 mm (69.88 in.) from end of suction hose.

- Remove the cap from the fuel filler tube.

- Install the adapter - 1 - for the (VAS 5190) on the fuel tank filler tube.






- Push the suction hose as far into fuel tank until the mark applied earlier - arrow - is positioned on shaft piece.

• If using a siphoning device without shaft piece, proceed principally in the same manner.

• In this case, apply a mark - arrow - using insulating tape on hose at length - a - = 1,710 mm (67.32 in.) from end of suction hose. The suction hose is inserted correctly when the marking applied earlier stands opposite the lip of fuel filler tube.






• If the hose can only be inserted with difficulty, coat it thinly with engine oil. Never use lubricants containing silicon.

- Empty fuel tank as much as possible via fuel filler tube.

- Carefully pull out the suction hose.

- Remove the left single seat and the left 2/3 seat bench seat cushion in the second row of seats.

Risk of injury.

• Wear protective gloves.

- Cut the floor covering along the perforation - arrows - on the left side with a carpet knife - 1 -.






- Fold carpet cut-out to side - arrow -.






- Remove the nuts - 1 to 4 - and remove left locking flange cover.

- Disconnect the electrical connector - arrow - on the left locking flange.






- Remove locking ring with (T10202).






- Pull the left locking flange - 3 - slightly out of the fuel tank.






- Disconnect the connector - 2 - underneath the left locking flange.

- Extract the fuel in the left fuel tank chamber using (VAS 5190) through the opening in the fuel tank chamber.

Assemble in reverse order of disassembling. Note the following:

• For the correct tightening specifications, refer to => [ Fuel Delivery Unit, Suction Jet Pump and Fuel Level Sensor Overview ] Fuel Delivery Unit, Suction Jet Pump and Fuel Level Sensor Overview.

• Replace seal.

- Install the new sealing ring - 1 - for the left locking flange dry.

- Connect electrical connector - 2 - underneath the left locking flange.

- Bring the left locking flange into the installation position:

• The tab - 2 - on left locking flange faces toward the arrow marking and must lie between tabs - 1 and 2 - on fuel tank.






- Tighten the locking ring for the left locking flange with the (T10202).






- Connect the connector - arrow - at left locking flange.






- Install the left locking flange cover. Refer to=> [ Locking Flange Cover - Tightening Specifications ] Fuel Tank With Attachments With Reducing Agent Metering System Overview.

- Install the frame into the floor covering. and to the Parts Catalog.

- Install the left single seat and the left 2/3 seat bench seat cushion in the second row of seats.
