Transmission Control Systems: Service and Repair






Transmission Control Module (J217)

Removing

- Perform OBD and Guided Fault Finding before replacing or removing the control module.

- Get the control module identification and coding from the previous Transmission Control Module (TCM) (J217).

- Turn off the ignition and remove the key.

- Remove the front passenger seat.

- Open the drawer - 1 - under the front passenger seat.






- Release clips on the back of the cover - 2 - in direction of - arrow A -.

- Remove the cover from the front passenger seat console in direction of - arrow B -.

- Remove the bolt - 4 -.






- Disconnect the connectors - 1 and 2 -.

- Remove the mount - 3 - and control modules upward.

Risk of damaging transmission components.

You must first discharge yourself of any static electricity by touching a grounded metal object (bare handed) before touching or removing the TCM.

Never touch the connectors in the TCM. Static discharging can damage the TCM.

- To discharge static, touch vehicle ground with hand (without glove).

- Open the clips - arrows - and pull the TCM - 3 - until it stops. If necessary, release clips again and remove control module from mount.






Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Install the front passenger seat.

If the TCM was replaced:

- Perform a transmission adaptation. Refer to => [ Transmission Adaptation ] Transmission Adaptation.
