Vehicle Diagnosis Tester

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and General Information ] Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and General Information.

Follow all regulations when disposing of pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, Storage, Transporting and Disposal ] Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, Storage, Transporting and Disposal.

If airbag malfunction indicator lamp (K75) comes on after a vehicle accident, check whether crash data is stored using. Refer to vehicle diagnostic tester. If this is the case, check whether the malfunction 001 Resistance too high is saved in the battery interrupt igniter (N253) DTC memory. If this is the case, Battery Interrupt Igniter (N253) must be replaced.

The battery interrupt igniter (N253) is available as a replacement part only together with the main fuse panel inside the vehicle floor panel.

If just the battery interrupt igniter (N253) is being replaced, then remove it from the replacement part and install it in the main fuel panel inside the vehicle floor panel.

Removing

- Turn on the ignition.

- Turn on the ignition and disconnect the ground cable from the battery.

- Remove the front screws on the console on the left front seat. Pivot left front seat with console back. Refer to => [ Driver Seat Bracket Assembly Overview ] Driver Seat Bracket Assembly Overview.

- Remove screw - 1 - and remove air duct - 2 -.

- Remove cover over Battery Interrupt Igniter (N253).

Before handling airbag units (for example, when disconnecting the harness connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Remove connector - 1 - in - direction of arrow -.

- Remove nuts - 3 -.

- Remove Battery Interrupt Igniter (N253) - 2 - from bracket.

Installation

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and General Information ] Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and General Information.

Before handling airbag units (for example, when disconnecting the harness connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Observe the specified tightening specification.

Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

Make sure the wires do not get caught.

Ignition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (for example, airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. Maintain personal safety when connecting the battery by staying out of airbag deployment areas, keeping a distance from belt tensioners/seat belts and ensuring no other people are in the vehicle interior at the moment when the battery is connected.

- Switch on ignition.

- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on.

- Check the airbag control module DTC memory and correct any faults, if necessary (J234). Refer to vehicle diagnostic tester.
