Transmission, Removing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Engine Support Bridge (10 - 222 A)
• Bracket With Spindle And Hook (10 - 222 A /10)
• Shackle (1 Set=2 Pieces) (10 - 222 A /12)

Removing

- Remove the particulate filter.
- Remove the air filter housing.
- Remove the rear driveshaft.
- Remove the front driveshaft.
- Remove the left coolant pipe from the transmission.
- Remove the left upper coolant pipes from the transmission.
- Remove the starter.
- Remove the bolt - arrow -.
- Disconnect the connectors - 1, 2 and 3 -.
- Remove ball head - 1 - on the selector lever cable from the selector shaft lever using the (80-200).
- Remove the bolts - 2 - and then remove the selector lever cable from the transmission.
• Do not bend the selector lever cable.
- Insert the (T40058) guide pins as follows:
• The large diameter - arrow 1 - faces the engine.
• The small diameter - arrow 2 - faces the adapter.
- Control the crankshaft using the (T40058) to loosen the torque converter bolts.
Danger of camshaft timing chain jumping off.
• When mounting, turn the crankshaft only in the direction of engine rotation - arrow -.
- Remove the cover - 2 -.
- Rotate each crankshaft 120° in the direction of engine rotation and remove the 6 torque converter bolts - 1 - in the opening for the starter.
- Remove the engine/transmission connecting bolts - 3 to 10 -.
- Mount the (10 - 222 A) on the fender bolting edge as illustrated.
• The (3033) spindles are in the back.
- Engage the spindle carabiner hook into the rear engine lifting eyes.
- Mount the (10 - 222 A /19) on the notches on the longitudinal member and install the remaining parts of the (10 - 222 A) as illustrated.
- Slide the (T40091/2) with the (T40093/5) into both connections (T40093/4).
Risk of accident if the engine support bridge is not secure.
• Secure the (T40091/2) with the bolts and splints from the (T40093/4).
- Attach the carabiner hook from the (10 - 222 A /10) to the front lifting eye on the right side of the engine.
- Position the (V.A.G 1383 A) with the (T40173) under the transmission and secure it with a strap, as illustrated.
Danger of causing damage to the ATF pan.
• Adjust the transmission support so that the transmission is not resting on the surface of the ATF pan.
- Remove the bolts - 1 and 2 - from the transmission support.
- Lower the transmission using (V.A.G 1383 A).
- Pretension the engine evenly using the three spindles, but do not lift.
• Place a clean cloth under the separating point to catch the escaping ATF.
• Pay attention to the rules of cleanliness when working on an automatic transmission. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.
- Remove the bolts - 1, 2 and 3 - and pull the ATF pipes off the transmission.
• Depending on the date of manufacture, the ATF pre-heater and the bolts - 2 - are not attached to the top of the transmission.
- Seal any open lines and connections with a clean plug from the (VAS 6122).
- Separate the transmission from the engine by pushing the torque converter off the drive plate through opening for the starter that was removed earlier.
- Use the (30 - 211 A) to secure the torque converter inside the transmission from falling out.
- Secure the (3033) to the transmission and to the transfer case as illustrated.
- If it is necessary to separate the transmission from the transfer case, then use the (VAS 6100) to lift the transmission with the transfer case off the (V.A.G 1383 A) and then to set it down being careful of the oil pan.
- Separate the transfer case from the transmission.
