Backrest Cover with Cushion

The work description is based on a manual or power standard or sport front seat and comfort seat.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Pry Lever - Rmv Outside Mirror (80 - 200)

Special Hook (3370)

Drill for vehicles equipped with a DVD player

Eye protection for vehicles equipped with a DVD player

12 mm drill for vehicles equipped with a DVD player

Removing

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components ] Description and Operation.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

- Remove the front seat:

Standard seat and Sport seat (manual), refer to => [ Manual Standard Front Seat ] Manual Standard Front Seat.

Standard seat, Sport seat (power) and Comfort seat, refer to => [ Power Standard Front Seat ] Power Standard Front Seat.

- Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136). Refer to => [ Installing the Front Seat on VAS 6136 ] Installing the Front Seat On VAS 6136.

Vehicles equipped with a mount for a DVD player:






DVD player removed.

- Unclip the trim - 2 - for the connector - arrow -.

Eye injury risk.

Wear protective goggles!

- Drill out the guides - 1 - and - 3 - for the DVD player using a 12 mm drill.








Danger of destroying the backrest cover and cushion.

The guides are held in the backrest frame by the retaining tabs - arrows -.

When removing, drill out only up to dimension - a - = 35 mm.

Vehicles with cabin heater:

- Remove the cabin heater vents. Refer to => [ Cabin Heater Vents ] Cabin Heater Vents.

All vehicles:

- Remove backrest cover panel. Refer to => [ Backrest Cover ] Backrest Cover.

- Remove headrests:

Refer to => [ Headrests with Locking Mechanism ] Headrests With Locking Mechanism.

Refer to => [ Power Headrests ] Power Headrests.

- Remove backrest:

Standard seat and Sport seat (manual), refer to => [ Front Backrest ] Front Backrest.

Standard seat, Sport seat (power) and Comfort seat, refer to=> [ Backrest ] Backrest.

- Remove the entry assistance trim. Refer to => [ Entry Assistance Trim ] Entry Assistance Trim.

- Remove the clips on the backrest frame - 5 - with the (80 - 200).






- Detach the rear retaining channels - 1, 2, 3 and 4 - on the backrest frame using the (3370).

- Disengage the left and right rear straps - 6 - on the backrest frame.

- Remove the upholstery on the front seat backrest so that the side airbag screw is accessible. When doing this, carefully pull the cover and cushion near the side airbag as far as possible toward the front.

- Remove side airbag. Refer to => [ Thorax (Side) Airbag Igniters (N199)/(N200) ] Thorax (Side) Airbag Igniters (N199)/(N200).

- Remove the cover and cushion upward and off the backrest frame while at the same time removing the seat heating wiring harness.

Installing

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components ] Description and Operation.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following:

- Make sure the clamping profiles engage correctly and the cover is not wrinkled.

Vehicles equipped with a mount for a DVD player:






The guide mounts - 1 - and - 3 - on the backrest must free of contaminants.

- Align the backrest cover and install the guides into the mounts.

The guides - 1 - and - 3 - can be installed in only one position.

The release buttons must face outside.

- Install the trim - 2 -.

The trim can be installed in only one position.

Ignore - arrow -.

All vehicles:

Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Connect the battery Ground (GND) cable with the ignition turned on.

If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory must be checked, deleted and checked again. Refer to Vehicle diagnostic tester.
