Coupling Rod with Stabilizer Bar
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)
• Installation lubricant
Removing
- Determine dimension - a - from the center of the wheel to the lower edge of the wheel housing before starting work while the vehicle is resting on its wheels.
- Place the vehicle on a hoist.
- Remove wheels.
• Do not damage the paint on the stabilizer bar when removing and installing.
- Remove the bolt - 4 -.
- Remove the nut - 3 -, washer - 2 - and bolt - 1 -.
The stabilizer bar - 4 - is completely removed and installed with the rubber bushings - 1 - and clamps - 3 -. Do not remove the clamps and rubber bushings.
- Remove the left and right bolts - 2 - and the stabilizer bar - 4 -.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Subframe, Stabilizer Bar, Coupling Rod and Diagonal Brace Overview, AWD ] Subframe, Stabilizer Bar, Coupling Rod and Diagonal Brace Overview, AWD.
• Bonded rubber bushings can only be turned to a limited extent. Only tighten suspension screws when vehicle is in curb weight or control position.
• Wheel bearing, lifting to curb weight position on vehicles with coil springs, refer to => [ Wheel Bearing with Coil Spring, Lifting to Curb Weight Position ] Rear Suspension
- Insert the stabilizer bar and install the right bolts loosely.
- First install the left and right bolts - 2 - loosely.
- Then tighten the left and right bolts - 2 - evenly.
- Insert the bolt - 1 - with the washer - 2 - and tighten the left and right nuts - 3 -.
- Tighten the left and right bolts - 4 -.
- Wheel alignment is required, see Table. Refer to => [ Wheel Alignment ] Wheel Alignment.
- Tighten wheel.
