Ignition Timing: Adjustments

1. Check and adjust ignition timing with engine at operating temperature. All vacuum hoses to the distributor must be disconnected and plugged. Connect a timing light and RPM meter.
2. Rev engine to 2200 RPM, aiming the timing light at the ball mark on the flywheel. The steel ball mark is imbedded in the flywheel and must line up with the pointer attached to the flywheel hole. If engine tune-up decal (located in the engine compartment) specifications are different from specifications listed above, use the decal information.
3. Loosen the distributor clamp and adjust the timing until the ball mark is aligned with the pointer in the flywheel hole (equivalent to 25° BTDC). Fasten the distributor clamp and reconnect all distributor vacuum hoses.
