Ignition

The ignition system is controlled by the dwell time depending on engine speed, battery voltage, and engine load condition (airflow meter). The control unit will calculate the dwell and ignition angle on the basis of a map covering speed, load, and other correction signals and will operate accordingly the ignition coil by way of a current-controlled power final stage without the help of series resistors.

The secondary voltage will be carried to the pertinent spark plugs by a high-tension distributor whose rotor is attached to the camshaft. Since ignition advance and retard are formed by the electronic control unit, the high-tension distributor serves exclusively for high voltage distribution. The system is nonadjustable and except for the spark plug changes, totally maintenance-free.
