DAMAGE TO ON-BOARD COMPUTER - 1981 AND 1982 733i MODELS SO EQUIPPED.
To prevent damage to the on-board computer during jump starting or battery recharging, FUSE NO. 5 MUST BE REMOVED. Please use the decal shown in the illustration, on all on-board computer equipped vehicles when they are serviced at your dealership. A sufficient supply is enclosed for the entire 1982 model year. Should you require additional decals, they are available through your BMW Parts Department under P/N 89 89 1 000 128. When ordering, please indicate the number of decals required.
Should the on-board computer have been previously damaged during jump starting or battery recharging, the vehicle might not start. Remove Fuse No. 5 to start the vehicle.
JUMP STARTING
1. Disconnect fuse No. 5.
2. Carefully observing polarity, connect jumper cables to the positive battery terminal and the CHASSIS GROUND (not the negative battery terminal) on the vehicle to be jump-started. In this manner, sensitive electronic components will be afforded more protection from voltage surges by the damping action of the chassis ground.
3. Jump-start the vehicle and reinstall fuse No. 5.
4. Reset digital clock.
BATTERY RECHARGING
1. Remove fuse No. 5.
2. Remove the negative cable from the battery terminal.
3. Connect the battery charger TO THE BATTERY ONLY.
4. After recharging, reconnect the battery terminal, start the vehicle, and reinstall fuse No. 5.
5. Reset digital clock.
