SUBJECT: Cellular Telephone Antenna Positioning

MODELS: All lnformatlon: A survey of BMW vehicles equipped with cellular telephones has shown that many antennas are incorrectly installed. We have noted that both the BMW window-mounted antenna and aftermarket fender-mounted (elevated-feed) antennas are being positioned at various "sporty" angles. While positioning the antenna perpendicular to the rear window or raked back 20 degrees on the rear fender looks racy, this is not the correct way to position the antenna.

Although the technical reasons are different for each of the antenna types, both must be positioned absolutely vertical (within 3 degrees). This will ensure a strong omnidirectional signal and minimize dropped (disconnected) calls.
