Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch (For Computer): Service and Repair
1. Ensure that engine is cool, then drain cooling system as needed, catching coolant in suitable container so that it can be reused.
2. Disconnect electrical connector, then remove switch or sensor from water outlet or manifold, taking care not to damage or distort electrical connections.
3. Inspect seal and replace as needed.
4. Mount seal on housing, then install unit and tighten to specified torque, taking care not to cross or strip threads.
Temperature sensor 14 ft. lbs.
Temperature switches 18 - 22 ft. lbs.
5. Reconnect electrical connector, then refill and bleed cooling system as follows:
a. Place heater control in fully warm position, then fill cooling system.
b. When no more coolant can be added, start engine and continue filling system.
c. When system is filled, fill expansion tank halfway and install radiator cap.
d. Set engine to run at fast idle.
e. Allow engine to run until it reaches normal operating temperature, ensuring that coolant level in expansion tank remains constant.
f. Open bleed screw on water pump housing and allow coolant to flow from bleed valve, maintaining level in expansion tank.
g. When coolant flowing from bleed valve is free from bubbles, tighten bleed screw and return engine to idle.
h. Install expansion tank cap and check for leaks.
