Shift Linkage: Adjustments

Fig. 4 Shift selector adjustment.:





1. Place shift selector lever (1), Fig. 4, in Park position, then raise and support vehicle.
2. Loosen nut (2) securing cable rod.
3. Move transmission lever (3) forward into Park position.
4. Push cable rod (4) rearward, then secure adjustment by torquing nut (2) to 7-8.5 ft.lbs.

THROTTLE (KICKDOWN) CABLE

1. Ensure that accelerator cable, full throttle setting and throttle stop are properly adjusted.
2. With engine off and throttle lever against stop, check clearance ``S'' between throttle cable stop (5) and end of housing (6), Fig. 5.
3. If clearance is not .10-.030 inch, loosen cable locknuts (1) and adjust cable housing as needed.
4. Loosen locknut (3) and rotate kickdown stop (2) clockwise.
5. Depress accelerator pedal until transmission kickdown can be felt and hold pedal position.
6. Rotate kickdown stop counterclockwise until stop just contacts pedal, then secure adjustment with locknut.
7. Fully depress accelerator pedal to final kickdown position, then measure clearance between cable stop (5) and housing (6), Fig. 5.
8. Clearance should be 1.732 inch. If clearance is not as specified, repeat procedure.
