Emission - Imported U.S. Models Do Not Meet Standards

SUBJECT: Imported U.S. Models

MODELS: All with Catalytic Converter

Problem: U.S. models sold overseas (and eventually brought into the U.S.) do not meet the EPA Emission Standards.

Cause: Vehicles were operated with fuels containing lead, thereby damaging both the oxygen sensor and catalytic converter.

Correction: Vehicles that have been operated on leaded fuel must be serviced in accordance with the procedures outlined below in order to comply with the EPA Emission Standards.


Note: The repair procedure described below is NOT covered by the terms of the warranty.

Repair

Procedure: 1. Drain leaded gasoline from fuel tank.
2. Start engine and run until it stops.

3. Fuel vehicle with lead-free gasoline.

4. Start engine and let run for about three minutes.

5. Stop engine and let exhaust system cool off.

6. Remove straight pipe or old catalytic converter and install new catalytic converter and oxygen sensor.

7. Restart engine and measure CO. Adjust to specifications if necessary.
