Fuel Delivery and Air Induction: Service and Repair

Care must be taken to catch spilled fuel during fuel system bleeding. Do not allow fuel to contact hot engine parts, and do not bleed system in presence of sparks or open flame.
1. Remove relay for transfer pump from relay box and connect suitable switch between terminals 30 and 87 in relay socket.
2. Loosen bleed screw on filter housing, operate transfer pump with switch until fuel runs out, then tighten bleed screw.
3. Loosen feed line at injection pump, operate transfer pump with switch until clear fuel runs from feed line coupling, then torque coupling to 14 ft. lbs.
4. Install transfer pump relay and loosen distributor piston plug on injection pump 2 full turns.
5. Crank engine with starter until fuel runs from plug, then torque plug to 14-22 ft. lbs.
6. Loosen coupler nuts to all fuel injectors, crank engine with starter until fuel runs from couplings, then torque couplings to 14-18 ft. lbs.
7. Mop up spilled fuel and ensure that all connections are secure and free from leaks.
