System Quick Test
QUICK CHECK- With the engine stopped, operate the brake pedal about 20 times with the same force required for full stop braking (discharge hydraulic reservoir).
NOTE: The reservoir is empty when the oil level in tank no longer rises (visual check) or when suddenly more force is required to press the brake pedal down (force check).
- With the brake pedal depressed (hard), start the engine.
The brake pedal should sink significantly after the engine has started. If the brake pedal does not sink significantly or sinks only a short distance (approx. 0.3 in. or less), a defect is present in the power steering pump, power flow regulator, hydraulic reservoir or the brake booster.
