SUBJECT: Front Spoiler
MODEL: 325es, 325is
Situation: The side attachment brackets (see drawing) may break away from the spoiler, due to impacting the spoiler against objects such as curbs, parking lot bumpers, etc.
Remedy: New brackets may be glued onto the spoiler using a repair kit (BMW P/N 88 88 9 999 027), which contains brackets and adhesive for both sides of one spoiler. This may be done without removing the spoiler from the car.
Instructions: Grind or sand away existing adhesive from spoiler, taking care not to remove molded-in locating studs. Grind or sand paint from mating surface of new bracket. Wipe down spoiler and bracket with clean cloth to remove any dirt or dust.
Cut tips from nozzles of applicator tubes and snap white auto-mixer onto end. Squeeze a bead of adhesive two inches long onto a piece of paper, and discard.
Apply adhesive to mating surface of bracket, making certain entire surface is covered.
Immediately apply bracket to spoiler with mounting stud in upper position. Snap bracket onto molded-in locating studs, taking care that only minimal squeezeout of adhesive occurs. Smooth excess material around edges with a stick or cloth.
Use a piece of masking tape to hold the bracket in place while curing. Allow adhesive to cure for thirty-five minutes at room temperature.
Remove tape and spray bracket with rustproofing touch-up spray, BMW P/N 81 22 9 400 099, and re-attach spoiler to body with washer-nuts provided.
