Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Corrective Procedure:

Inspect the right shock tower underhood area for emissions recall label No. 90E-A01 as shown on page 3. If this label is present, do not proceed further.

If the label is not present, proceed as follows:

1) Exchange the Motronic Control Unit EPROM per the attached instructions.

2) Perform the exchange work exactly as stated using all tools and precautions listed in the preparatory instructions.

3) Affix label number 40 next to the Bosch label on the front of the
Motronic Control Unit. (See illustration on page 3).

4) After the EPROM exchange, check the function of the Motronic
Control Unit, the CO/HC levels and the idle control mA value.

5) The air/fuel mixture must be checked and readjusted, if necessary, if the anti-tamper plug is missing or the plug shows signs of having been removed previously.

Reseal air flow meter bypass screw with anti-tamper plug.

6) With a ball point pen print your dealer code (5 digits) on the Recall Completion Label (see illustration). Peel label from its backing and affix it to the right shock tower.
