SUBJECT: Radio Interference

MODELS: E 32 (up to 4/87 production) E 30 (1/86 to 4/87 production)

Situation: With the ignition in the "Accessory" position only, a high frequency noise may be heard in the background while tuned to an FM station.

The source of the noise may be caused by the S.I.I. (Service Internal Indicator) printed circuit board and, additionally, in the E32, the OBC (On-Board-Computer) III module.

Diagnosis/
Repair: 1) Verify that the noise is only audible in the "Accessory" position by turning the ignition to the "Run" position.

2) Disconnect the electrical connectors from the instrument cluster. If the noise goes away replace the S.I.I. printed circuit board:

Note: (E32 only.) If the noise remains after the S.I.I. printed circuit board has been replaced, disconnect the OBC Ill module. If the noise goes away with the OBC Ill module disconnected, replace the OBC III module with a new one.
