Control Unit

The electronic control unit collects the signals from different sensors and calculates the optimal values for ignition timing and injection time to conform with the individual operating conditions. Then the ignition coil, injectors and fuel pump are controlled accordingly.

On the E 32 the control unit is located in the so called electronic box (E-Box) on the right wheel housing together with the ABS and Cruise Control units as well as the DME relay.

Ventilation slots, which must never be closed or sealed, carry off the heat produced by the control units. If the temperature inside the box reads 60°C (140 °F), an electric fan kicks in to supply colder air from the passenger compartment to the E-Box.
