SUBJECT: SRS Front Crash Sensor Harness Connections
MODELS: 1988 735i (E32) 11/87 production only
Situation: Improper crimping of the electrical pins may be found in the 6-pin connector X75 of the SRS system.
This may cause an intermittent connection of the front crash sensor inputs thereby illuminating the SRS warning lamp located in the instrument cluster.
The vehicles listed on the attachment should be inspected following the procedures outlined in this bulletin.
Inspection
Procedure: 1. Verify that the vehicle chassis number appears on the attached list.
2. Locate the vehicle harness manufacturer identification plate located on the side of the fusebox (see photo).
^ If the manufacturer is either DRAXLMEIER or KROSCHU proceed to step #10.
^ If the manufacturer is REINSHAGEN proceed with step #3.
3. Disconnect the negative battery cable and protect the negative battery post with a shop rag to prevent an accidental connection.
4. Remove the following components to gain access to the SRS control unit:
- underdash trim panel (left side):
- knee bolster;
- air distribution ducts (above knee bolster).
5. Disconnect the orange 2-pin connector X784.
6. Locate and disconnect the orange 6-pin connector X75 found behind the control unit.
7. Take the crash sensor side (vehicle side) of the connector and pull on each of the 6 wires with a pair of square-nosed pliers.
8. If any wire pulls out of the connector the front crash sensor wiring must be replaced. Proceed to Step #10.
NOTE: Refer to Si 72 03 88 (1647) for the replacement procedure of the front crash sensor harness.
9. If all wires checked out okay, reassemble components in the reverse order of disassembly.
10. Apply a Service Action label to the car as indicated.
Service Action Label
Instructions: This Service Action has been assigned code number 11. After the prescribed work has been performed, obtain a label (P/N 01 9 99 750 968) and
a) Emboss your BMW Dealer warranty number in the middle of the label.
b) Punch out code number 11 printed on the label.
c) Bend label to crease an edge and remove the backing paper. Then affix it to the "B" pillar (on driver's front door) as shown.
If the car affected already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix this new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched hole of the new label.

Status: Reimbursement for this Service Action will be provided through Campaign Entry.

Checking manufacturer of wiring harness, checking crimping of the electrical contacts.

Checking manufacturer of wiring harness, checking crimping of the electrical contacts and replacement of the SRS front crash sensor harness.
Labor allowance: 27 FRU
