Installation Procedure
Installation Procedure - Harness P/N 61 13 8 350 201^ Disconnect negative battery cable and cover the negative post with a shop rag.
^ Remove the lower left dash trim panels and knee bolster.
^ Disconnect X784 (SRS connection).
^ Remove X13, X15, and the 2 orange SRS connectors (X74 and X75) from the white plastic connector holder.
Disconnect these connectors and remove the plastic connector holder to expose the firewall grommet.
^ Remove the covers from the cowl area, air conditioning lines, heater water valves and E-Box.
^ Detach the coolant reservoir from the firewall (do not disconnect coolant lines).
^ Additionally, on the 750iL remove the injector cover and washer fluid reservoirs.
^ Remove the connectors and B + junction block from the holding brackets.
^ Remove the holding bracket, unbolt the water valve/pump assembly and set aside.
^ Cut the wire harness that exits the firewall grommet.
Note: If a SRS front sensor harness repair kit has been installed previously, completely remove it. Install a new SRS front sensor (with additional grommet) upon completion of this repair procedure. Refer to S.I. 72 03 88 (1647) dated 9/89 for installation procedures.
^ Pull the remaining portion of the wire harness inside the vehicle.
^ Remove and discard the firewall grommet.
^ Discard the cut portion of harness that connects to the wiper motor and ADV motor connectors.
^ Locate knock-out plug on the engine compartment partition. (if vehicle had a SRS front sensor repair harness previously installed, this opening will already be vacated.)
^ Remove the insulating material with a knife.
^ Remove the metal plug by gently tapping with a hammer.
^ Coat the exposed edges with primer touchup paint P/N 51 91 9 061 780 to prevent rusting.
^ Slide the grommet backing plates out of the two grommets on the repair harness (P/N 61 13 8 350 201).
^ Route the repair harness through the engine compartment partition and the firewall openings.
^ Secure the new grommets into position by pulling on the four "ears".
^ With the grommet fully seated the backing plate can be re-inserted.
Note: Failure to fully seat the grommet can lead to water intrusion.
^ Connect the 4 pin connectors to the wiper and ADV motor connectors.
^ Snap these connectors into position.
^ Remove the harness bracket from the EBox housing.
^ Remove E-Box cover.
^ Remove the hood contact switch from the left hood catch.
^ Remove the DWA/OBC horn and mounting bracket.
^ The old harness connected to these items can be pulled through the cowl area and discarded.
^ Locate and knock out the plug in the corner of the E-Box housing.
^ Coat exposed edges with primer touchup paint P/N 51 91 9 061 780 to prevent rusting.
Note: On a 750iL vehicle, this opening is already utilized. Remove the grommet from the two wires that go through this opening.
^ Route the repair harness as shown.
^ Secure the harness into position with ty-wraps.
^ Position rubber grommet into the E-Box opening.
^ On a 750iL vehicle, cut out two additional holes (which are preformed in the grommet) for the two wires routed through this opening.
^ Connect new harness to the hood contact switch and the DWA/OBC horn.
^ Reinstall both items into their original position.
^ Attach the female pins supplied with the repair harness to the old harness that was previously pulled through the firewall.
Note: Two of the pins supplied are for larger diameter wires. These are to be used on the two larger diameter wires.
Place these wires into the supplied housing so the wire colors match on both halves of the connector.
^ Connect the two connector halves together.
^ Cut and discard the four remaining brown wires where they enter the harness.
^ Attach the two ground eyelets to the appropriate ground location.
^ Attach the new connector to the harness as shown with a ty-wrap.
Reinstall all previously removed components/covers in the reverse order of their disassembly.
Note: Before X13 is reconnected, check for signs of corrosion. If present, clean and blow dry.
