SUBJECT: EML Diagnostic Circuit Testing
MODELS: 750iL
Situation: The EML Diagnostic Circuit has to be tested during inspection servicing and whenever EML-related electrical cables or harnesses are replaced.
NOTE:
It is not necessary to check the diagnostic circuit if EML-related harness plugs have been disconnected and reconnected.
CAUTION: Always turn off ignition switch prior to disconnecting multi-plugs. DME and EML Control Unit damage will result if this step is not followed.
Testing: ^ Turn ignition switch OFF.
^ Disconnect EML harness multiplug in engine compartment. (See Diagram, "A".)
^ Install EML Test Adapter #12 7 010 in series with the EML harness (it may be necessary to remove wire ties to access enough EML harness).
^ Turn EML Test Adapter control knob to Minimum Point.
^ Start engine and allow temperature to normalize.
^ Using the EML Test Adapter control knob, adjust engine speed to a steady point above idle speed (approx. 2200 RPM).
^ With engine RPM steady, depress the brake pedal:
- Engine speed should drop to decel cut-off/re-injection point and begin surging.
^ Depress the accelerator pedal while continuing to depress the brake pedal:
- Engine surge ceases.
If the above test results are observed, the diagnostic circuit is intact and functioning.
^ Turn ignition OFF and remove EML Test Adapter.
^ Reconnect EML harness connections and re-install wire ties as required.
For complete EML information, see TRI 12 02 87 (2087).
Testing of the EML Diagnostic Circuit is already incorporated in the labor allowances for inspections and repair procedures.
If testing has to be performed outside of an inspection or repair, it can be claimed under
