Timing Chain: Service and Repair
Prior to disconnecting fuel lines, disconnect master relay and carefully depressurize fuel system.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect electrical connectors from air flow sensor, release harness from clips and pull out drain hose, loosen clamp securing duct to throttle body, then remove air flow sensor/air cleaner assembly.
3. Remove piping and coolant hoses necessary to facilitate removal of lower timing case, then remove water pump pulley.
4. Remove engine vibration damper with hub, then remove crossmember and heat shield.
5. Loosen alternator retaining bolts, then position alternator aside.
6. Remove 4 power steering pump attaching bolts, then the power steering pump.
7. Position console aside and retain with a suitable wire.
8. Drain engine oil into a suitable container, then loosen and remove three timing case cover to oil pan retaining bolts.
9. Remove remaining oil pan bolts, then the timing case cover bolts and cover.
10. Remove camshaft sprockets as previously described, then remove water pump.
11. Loosen chain guide rail attaching bolts, then position guide rail aside.
12. Remove guide rail, then the timing chain.
13. Reverse procedure to install. Place timing chain on sprocket prior to positioning guide rail.
