The procedure outlined in this bulletin is mandatory for all cars with navigation system which will be equipped with a MOTOROLA CMT3000VR Cellular Phone. It also has to be applied on all new CMT3000VR installations. Do not order individual EPROMs except for your existing inventory.

EPROM Change for all Newly Installed CMT3000VR Phones

All 750iL, 740i/iL and 54Oi

Situation:

With the introduction of the new navigation system and the onboard monitor, it was necessary to develop a new software for the MOTOROLA CMT3000VR Cellular Phone, so that it will work correctly with the onboard monitor. The new software will come in form of a new EPROM for the telephone eject box and will be labeled HW03/SW06.

This new software is mandatory for cars with navigation system and onboard monitor which receive a CMT3000VR Phone. Without this EPROM being installed, the phone will not work correctly with the onboard monitor. Therefore all cars with navigation system and onboard monitor will be shipped to you with one EPROM in the glovebox until the next production change of the telephone eject box. Thus you can also use phone kits already in stock for navigation vehicles by changing the EPROM of the eject box.

All newly ordered CMT3000VR phone kits will be shipped to you together with the new EPROM. Besides the software for the navigation system, we also implemented a more robust and stable software for all the other phone functions. Therefore this EPROM has to be replaced in all eject boxes prior to installation of a new phone. For MOTOROLA CMT3000VR Cellular Phone kits you have in stock, you should order the EPROM separately.

750iL models as of production date 09/96 and all 750iL models with navigation system will have this EPROM already installed.

On all 750iL produced before 9/96 and all 740i/iL, 540i in dealer inventory which already have a CMT3000VR phone installed, you have to check the software version in the MID and change the EPROM prior to retail delivery, if the version is not HW03/SW06.

NOTE:
There will be a production change within six to eight weeks introducing software version HW03/SW07. This software will fix other reported problems and will also be available to you as an EPROM to correct customer complaints. As soon as this software is released, you will get a Service Information Bulletin with a detailed description of the problems and fixes. Meanwhile, please contact the BMW technical hotline if you are faced with a customer complaint concerning the function of a MOTOROLA CMT3000VR Phone.

Warranty Information:

Parts and labor are reimbursable under the terms of the BMW New Car Limited Warranty of 4 years/50,000 miles.
